The Ukrainian military intelligence announced its responsibility for the bombing of a military train belonging to Russian forces in the Melitopol area located on the coast of the Sea of Azov, while Moscow confirmed the collapse of two bridges in regions adjacent to Ukraine after they were subjected to "terrorist acts," resulting in two trains derailing and the deaths of 7 people and injuries to dozens.
Ukrainian intelligence stated in a statement today (Sunday): "The Russian train was targeted in the occupied part of the Zaporizhia region, heading towards the Crimean Peninsula, carrying fuel tanks and freight cars," adding that the explosion disrupted the logistical supplies of Russian forces in Zaporizhia and the Crimean Peninsula.
The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that 7 people were killed and 69 were injured after a bridge collapsed on a railway track in the Bryansk region, leading to a train derailing late Saturday evening.
However, the Interfax news agency quoted Bryansk Governor Alexander Bogomaz as saying that the bridge collapse was the result of an explosion. He confirmed the explosion of the bridge during the passage of the Klymovo-Moscow train, which had 388 passengers on board.
Acting Governor of the Kursk region, Alexander Khenstein, announced that a bridge collapsed in the region early today (Sunday) while a freight train was passing over it.
The Russian Investigative Committee announced the opening of an investigation into the incidents of the two bridges in the Russian regions of Bryansk and Kursk. The railway explosions in Bryansk and Kursk were classified as "terrorist acts."
Svetlana Petrenko, spokesperson for the Investigative Committee, told Sputnik that committee staff are currently working at the scene of the incident, conducting rapid investigative actions aimed at determining all the circumstances.
For its part, the Kremlin confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin received reports from Russian intelligence and the Ministry of Emergency Situations regarding what happened to the railways in the Kursk and Bryansk regions.
