"Kamelia" was not looking for a new religion; she was searching for the truth. Her heart had been restless since childhood, and her questions accumulated year after year: Who is God... Is it possible for me to find a religion that answers my questions and fills my spiritual void?
In Denmark, amidst a society that knows little about Islam, her long journey of search began. There was no one to encourage her; in fact, she was sometimes met with ridicule, but she did not stop. She says, "I felt that there was a Creator, something greater than everything I was told; I just couldn't name it yet."
Years passed filled with questions until the day her son spoke to her about his desire to embrace Islam. "I encouraged him and said: If you feel this is right, then do it." He did not know that she was also approaching the moment that would change her life forever.
That moment came after a long cry, during which she felt her heart had finally found what it was searching for: "peace," as she describes it. The peace she found in the Quran, in Islam.
From that moment, a new journey began... its end—or rather its true beginning—was in Mecca, when she was chosen as part of the Guests of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques program to perform Hajj, without having sought it or even dreamed of it.
Kamelia says, "Everything happened like a miracle; I did not know that God would see me and choose me."
This is how Kamelia began her story, with tearful eyes as she recounted her journey to Islam, which ultimately led her to Hajj as part of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques' hospitality program.
She says that this continuous search for a God she could feel led her to contemplate nature. "I would see the trees, the forests, and the sky... all this beauty and order could not be just a coincidence. There is a Creator; I felt it, but I did not know who He was."
Despite the astonishment of those around her, Kamelia continued her search until the day her son said to her, "Mom, what if you converted to Islam?" She smiled and encouraged him, not knowing that the decision would be a turning point in their lives together. Just two months later, in a deep moment of contemplation, she found herself crying intensely. "My heart was screaming: Finally, I found the way."
She began reading the Quran, saying, "I felt that every question I had asked found its answer here. The Quran is not just a book; it is a guide to life. It contains scientific miracles that make the mind submit to the greatness of God."
Months passed, and the hijab began to make its way into her life. She wore it with confidence and encouraged the girls in her small community to try it. "I would tell them that the hijab gives you an indescribable inner peace."
One day, while shopping, a woman approached her and asked, "Are you Muslim? Can we talk?" She did not know that this woman worked with the committee responsible for Hajj. "She said to me: Do you want to perform Hajj? I felt like my heart would stop. I hadn't even dreamed of this, and suddenly I became one of the Guests of God."
Kamelia, who was chosen as part of the Guests of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques program, still cannot believe it. "It was a miracle in every sense of the word. I was chosen because I was sincere in my quest for God."
When asked if she knew that this program was sponsored by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, she replied in astonishment, "I didn't know until you told me. Thank you for clarifying that for me."
She then added, with gratitude filling her tone, "I thank God first, for He called me and said: Come to My house. And I thank Saudi Arabia, which granted me this opportunity that I never dreamed of. I will remember it for as long as I live."
