On behalf of India and the Indian community residing in Saudi Arabia, I extend my warmest congratulations to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, to the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, and to the Saudi people on the occasion of the National Day.
India takes pride in what the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has achieved in terms of progress, prosperity, and success over the past decades under wise leadership. Today, the Kingdom is not only a major producer of energy but also a country making rapid advancements in developing its economy, human resources, technologies, enhancing environmental sustainability, and building cultural bridges.
The past decade has witnessed radical transformations in Saudi Arabia. Since the launch of "Vision 2030" under the leadership of the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, significant progress has been made in diversifying the economy away from oil dependence, expanding the tourism, technology, culture, and entertainment sectors while providing greater opportunities for its youth. The increasing growth in non-oil sectors and massive investments in infrastructure and new industries have solidified the Kingdom's position as a country with a diverse, dynamic, and globally interconnected economy.
The transformation achieved by Saudi Arabia is also reflected in the expanding relationship between India and the Kingdom. The Strategic Partnership Council agreement signed by the two countries in 2019 has enhanced their bilateral relations in various fields.
The relationship has seen a continuous exchange of high-level political visits, with three visits by Prime Minister Modi to Saudi Arabia so far (the latest in April 2025), and two visits by the Crown Prince and Prime Minister to India (the most recent in 2023). There continues to be a series of ministerial visits between the two countries, leading to tangible results.
Saudi Arabia is one of India's largest partners in the energy sector, continuing to export significant quantities of crude oil even amidst the current regional conflicts. It is also considered a very reliable source of fertilizers for India.
The volume of bilateral trade between the two countries exceeds 40 billion USD annually, with each country being among the top 5 trading partners of the other. Furthermore, there are significant mutual investments in various fields, including Saudi investments in India in sectors such as energy and renewable energy, technology and digital services, retail, food, agriculture, and healthcare. There are thousands of businesses run by Indians, especially in the small and medium sectors, contributing to the Saudi economy.
As both countries enjoy growing economies, ambitious projects, and youthful populations, I have no doubt that trade exchanges will continue to strengthen in the coming years. These include new and emerging fields such as startups, logistics, data centers, artificial intelligence, fintech, and semiconductors, in addition to strategic sectors like space equipment and defense. Connectivity, whether physical, digital, or between power grids, will also be an important feature of our partnership.
India and Saudi Arabia continue to cooperate in multilateral forums, such as the G20 and BRICS, focusing on adopting the priorities of the Global South. We were honored by the participation of Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan in the BRICS summit held earlier this month in New Delhi. I also look forward to continuing to enhance educational, cultural, and youth exchanges between our two countries. I congratulate the Saudi leadership on the successful organization of the Hajj season for 2026 and express my deep appreciation for the ongoing support provided to Indian pilgrims visiting the Kingdom to perform Hajj and Umrah.
The regional conflict in West Asia today poses a significant concern for the entire international community. We appreciate Saudi Arabia's commitment to peace and stability as well as to the safety and freedom of navigation in international waterways. India expresses its solidarity with the Kingdom and condemns the recent attacks on its sovereign territory.
It has only been a month since I assumed my role as Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Even in this short period, I have witnessed the immense energy, warmth, and openness of the people of the Kingdom, and I am confident that this dynamism will continue to propel Saudi Arabia forward in achieving its goals under Vision 2030. India and the Indian community in Saudi Arabia will always remain a worthy partner with the leadership and people of the Kingdom.
Happy Saudi National Day
Ambassador of the Republic of India to the Kingdom, Vipul
