When disaster strikes, the speed of aid is measured in the first hours... A plane takes off, a ship is loaded, trucks head to the borders, and medical and relief teams enter the field. For decades, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has built this model of humanitarian response, transforming its air, sea, and land bridges into one of the most prominent aspects of its presence during earthquakes, floods, wars, and displacement.
The Saudi Aid Platform, affiliated with the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, places this aid within a broader record that exceeds $145 billion, equivalent to more than 546 billion riyals, reaching 175 countries through thousands of humanitarian, developmental, and charitable projects and contributions.
Gaza.. 83 planes
And 8 ships and 961 trucks
In Gaza, the latest data from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center reveals one of the largest modern Saudi bridges; the air and sea bridges have reached 83 planes and 8 ships, in addition to 961 relief trucks carrying food, medicine, and shelter materials.
The center had previously documented the arrival of 78 planes and 8 ships loaded with more than 7,706 tons of aid, along with the delivery of 20 ambulances to the Palestinian Red Crescent. The response also included the operation of a central kitchen with a capacity of up to 24,000 beneficiaries daily, while the value of relief agreements signed with international organizations to implement projects in Gaza reached $90.35 million, about 339 million riyals.
Earthquake in Syria and Turkey.. 19 planes and thousands of housing units
Following the earthquake in February 2023, the Kingdom launched an air bridge to Syria and Turkey. Data from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center indicates that the bridge reached 19 relief planes.
The center documented, in one phase of the response, the transfer of more than 1,000 tons of relief materials via 17 planes, which included food, tents, blankets, shelter bags, and medical supplies. The response later transitioned to a more sustainable shelter phase by providing 6,012 temporary housing units for the affected.
Sudan.. Air and sea bridge
With the outbreak of the Sudanese crisis in 2023, the Saudi leadership directed the establishment of an air and relief bridge to support the Sudanese people. According to the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, Saudi planes carried food, medical, and shelter materials, followed by a sea bridge to transport larger quantities of aid.
The Saudi intervention extended to food security, shelter, health, and water, while continuing to implement projects in displacement areas and the states hosting the affected.
Libya.. Saudi planes after "Daniel"
When floods swept eastern Libya following Hurricane "Daniel" in 2023, the Saudi air bridge moved to the affected areas. Data from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center documents the arrival of at least four planes in the early stages.
The second plane carried 40 tons of food materials, while the fourth plane carried 90 tons of food and shelter aid, alongside field teams working to deliver it to the affected.
Morocco.. Saudi intervention after the earthquake
In September 2023, following the earthquake that struck Morocco, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince directed the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center to establish an air bridge to provide assistance to the affected, sending a Saudi search and rescue team from the General Directorate of Civil Defense, along with teams from the Saudi Red Crescent to participate in field operations.
Here, the response extended from transporting relief materials to sending specialized human resources in search, rescue, and medical assistance.
Pakistan.. 10 planes and a land bridge
In the floods in Pakistan in 2022, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center announced the dispatch of no less than 10 relief planes.
The first two planes carried 180 tons of food, shelter, and health aid to serve more than 19,000 affected individuals, alongside a land bridge within Pakistan to deliver food, tents, and shelter bags to areas cut off by the floods.
Beirut.. 290 tons in the first 4 planes
Following the explosion at the Port of Beirut in August 2020, the Saudi air bridge moved loaded with medical, shelter, and food aid.
According to the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, the first four planes carried about 290 tons, including ventilators, intensive care equipment, medicines, and supplies for burn treatment, in addition to food, tents, and blankets.
Yemen.. Thousands of tons
By sea and air
In Yemen, the figures reveal the capacity of the Saudi bridge to operate through multiple pathways. Data from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center documents the dispatch of 14 relief planes to Aden in one phase of the response, along with two planes to Socotra carrying 20 tons of aid.
By sea, the "Darab Al-Khair" ship arrived loaded with 3,540 tons, including 100,000 food baskets weighing 3,000 tons, 450 tons of dates, and 90 tons of medical supplies.
The center also dispatched another ship carrying 4,500 tons of food, medical equipment, and generators, indicating the importance of the sea bridge in transporting volumes that are difficult to move by air.
Afghanistan.. Earthquake and winter relief
Following the earthquakes that struck Afghanistan, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center moved with urgent food and shelter assistance, alongside ongoing projects to combat the cold and humanitarian needs. The response included distributing food baskets, shelter bags, tents, blankets, and winter clothing in the most affected areas.
Somalia.. From drought to floods
In Somalia, the Kingdom dealt with successive crises from drought and food shortages to floods. According to the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, the interventions included providing food, water, shelter, health, and support for displaced groups and communities affected by waves of drought and floods.
Somalia stands out as an example of the transition of Saudi aid from "disaster relief" to building longer-term interventions in food security, water, and health.
From the plane to the hands of the affected
These bridges reveal a multi-pathway system: planes transport urgent medicine and food, medical and rescue teams, ships carry thousands of tons, and trucks complete the journey to cities and camps, while Saudi teams work on distribution, treatment, shelter, and rehabilitation.
On Saudi National Day, these events encapsulate one of the meanings of "Our pride is in our generosity": 83 planes, 8 ships, and 961 trucks in Gaza, 19 planes and more than a thousand tons in response to the earthquake in Syria and Turkey, at least 10 planes to Pakistan, hundreds of tons to Beirut and Libya, and thousands of tons by sea to Yemen. From an earthquake that destroys a house to a flood that sweeps away a city, and a war that forces a family to flee; Saudi bridges move in one direction: towards humanity.
