وزير الخارجية يشارك في الاجتماع الوزاري الاستثنائي لمنظمة التعاون الإسلامي

Today (Thursday), Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah participated in the 23rd extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held at the organization's headquarters in Jeddah.

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister delivered a speech in which he expressed his sincere congratulations to the new Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, and wished him success in his duties, while expressing the Kingdom's gratitude to the former Secretary-General, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, for his efforts during his tenure.

He emphasized that Islamic cooperation and solidarity have become an urgent necessity that cannot be overlooked in light of the recurring crises and economic, social, and humanitarian challenges facing the Islamic world and the member states of the organization. His Highness stated: "The Islamic world, with its human, political, economic, and civilizational weight, possesses the elements that qualify it to be an active party in shaping international balances," pointing out that the Kingdom, from this perspective, believes that the upcoming phase requires serious reform of the organization, enhancing its ability to implement its decisions, improving the efficiency of its institutions, and providing the joint Islamic action with more effective tools.

The minister reiterated the Kingdom's firm stance on the Palestinian issue, supporting the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state, according to the two-state solution, which achieves a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the region. He condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli occupation authorities' announcement of a new tender to build settlement units as part of the (E1) project, which is dangerous not only for adding new settlement units but also for its location, which leads to isolating East Jerusalem from its Palestinian surroundings, directly threatening the possibility of establishing a viable independent Palestinian state. He also renewed the Kingdom's condemnation of the repeated incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli officials and settlers under the protection of Israeli forces.

The Foreign Minister concluded his speech by saying: "The strength of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation is derived from the solidarity of its member states, the unity of their positions, and their ability to transform what unites them in principles and common interests into effective collective action," affirming that the Kingdom will continue to support every effort that contributes to enhancing the role and status of the organization, serves the issues of the Islamic world, and contributes to fulfilling the aspirations of its peoples for security, stability, prosperity, and peace.

The extraordinary session was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Engineer Walid Al-Khreeji.
