In a notable shift, Hamas announced today, Monday, the dissolution of its government in Gaza and the completion of preparations to transfer administrative tasks to the Palestinian National Committee for the Administration of the Gaza Strip.

The Director General of the Government Media Office in Gaza, Ismail Thawabteh, stated during a press conference that the head of the Government Work Follow-up Committee, "Hamas Government," Mohammed Al-Fara, and the head of the Government Emergency Committee in Gaza have officially resigned from their positions in preparation for handing over authority to the Palestinian National Committee for the Administration of Gaza.

He explained that it was decided to consider the heads of the current government institutions as a "temporary body," noting that all employees working in government will operate under the responsibility of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza.

The media office reported that this step comes in the context of transferring governance in the Gaza Strip to the Palestinian National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, as a new response to the higher interests of our Palestinian people, and in an effort to alleviate the severe suffering of citizens due to the ongoing genocide, delays in reconstruction, the continued blockade, the closure of crossings, and the failure of the Israeli occupation to withdraw from the strip.

Informed sources indicated that the movement decided to dissolve its governmental administrative committee that manages the Gaza Strip as a goodwill gesture, in preparation for handing over its tasks to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza.

The National Committee was formed under the leadership of Ali Shath from the Peace Council established by President Donald Trump, after playing a mediating role in the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel last October.

An informed source in Hamas told the French Press Agency that the movement "decided to dissolve the governmental committee (Hamas Government) in Gaza, and a nationally acceptable figure will be appointed to manage the committee's affairs, which will become an interim committee until the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza officially assumes its governmental tasks in the strip."

Since the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel came into effect in Gaza last October, Hamas has repeatedly confirmed its readiness to step down from managing the affairs of the strip and hand them over to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, which includes independents with competencies.

This step represents a significant political shift for Hamas since its takeover of Gaza in 2007 following military confrontations with the rival Fatah movement led by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

A source from a Palestinian faction that participated in the Cairo talks revealed that Hamas informed the factions participating in those meetings last week that it "informed the mediators of a goodwill gesture to dissolve the committee."

He added that the factions "welcomed Hamas's decision and considered it a serious step towards handing over governmental tasks in Gaza to the National Committee headed by Ali Shath as soon as it arrives."

The head of the committee, who has held government positions previously, and its members are temporarily residing in Cairo, as Israel has not approved their entry into Gaza, according to a member of the committee.
