أعلن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب أن شركات النفط العالمية الكبرى تعهدت باستثمار 100 مليار دولار في قطاع النفط بفنزويلا في حقبة ما بعد نيكولاس مادورو، وذلك قبيل لقائه مسؤولي هذه الشركات (الجمعة).
وأطاحت الولايات المتحدة بمادورو إثر القبض عليه وزوجته من قبل قوات أمريكية خاصة في الثالث من شهر يناير، ونقله إلى أراضيها لمواجهة تهم الاتجار بالمخدرات.
ولم يخفِ ترمب اهتمام واشنطن باستغلال نفط فنزويلا التي تحوز أكبر احتياطات مثبتة للخام في العالم، لكن يعاني قطاعها وبنيته التحتية ضغط العقوبات الأمريكية المفروضة منذ أعوام، وفقاً لوكالة فرانس برس (أ ف ب).
وأكد المسؤولون في واشنطن بعد اعتقال مادورو، أن واشنطن ستتولى إدارة فنزويلا في المرحلة القادمة، بينما ألمح وزير الطاقة كريس رايت (الأربعاء) الماضي إلى أن بلاده ستسيطر على قطاع النفط في كراكاس إلى أجل غير مسمى.
إلا أن نائبة مادورو ديلسي رودريغيز التي باتت رئيسة فنزويلا بالوكالة، شددت على أن حكومتها هي من تمسك زمام الأمور، بينما اكتفت الشركة الوطنية للنفط في فنزويلا بالقول إنها تجري مباحثات مع واشنطن بشأن بيع الخام.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that major global oil companies have pledged to invest $100 billion in the oil sector in Venezuela in the post-Nicolas Maduro era, just before his meeting with officials from these companies (on Friday).
The United States ousted Maduro following his and his wife's capture by U.S. special forces on January 3, and their transfer to U.S. territory to face drug trafficking charges.
Trump did not hide Washington's interest in exploiting Venezuela's oil, which holds the largest proven crude reserves in the world, but its sector and infrastructure are suffering from the pressure of U.S. sanctions imposed for years, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Officials in Washington confirmed after Maduro's arrest that Washington would take over the management of Venezuela in the coming phase, while Energy Secretary Chris Wright hinted last Wednesday that his country would control the oil sector in Caracas indefinitely.
However, Maduro's deputy, Delcy Rodríguez, who has become the acting president of Venezuela, emphasized that her government is in control, while the national oil company of Venezuela merely stated that it is in talks with Washington regarding the sale of crude.
