في ضربة قاصمة لإحدى ركائز الأجندة الاقتصادية للحزب الجمهوري، حظرت محكمة التجارة الأمريكية الرسوم الجمركية واسعة النطاق التي فرضها الرئيس دونالد ترمب، بعد أن وصفتها بأنها «غير قانونية».
وأصدرت هيئة من 3 قضاة في محكمة التجارة الدولية الأميركية في مانهاتن حكمها في وقت مبكر من صباح اليوم (الخميس)، الذي يعد انتصاراً للولايات التي يقودها الديمقراطيون ومجموعة من الشركات الصغيرة.
وبينت هذه الشركات والولايات في دعواها أن «ترمب» استغل قانون الطوارئ بشكل خاطئ لتبرير الرسوم. ولا يزال بإمكان إدارة الرئيس الجمهوري استئناف القرار أمام المحكمة الفيدرالية.
ويُعد هذا القرار إحدى أكبر الهزائم القانونية والسياسية التي يتعرض لها ترمب حتى الآن، وسط موجة من الدعاوى القضائية بشأن الأوامر التنفيذية التي أصدرها منذ توليه القيادة في يناير.
In a major blow to one of the pillars of the Republican Party's economic agenda, the U.S. Court of International Trade has banned the sweeping tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump, describing them as "illegal."
A panel of three judges in the U.S. Court of International Trade in Manhattan issued its ruling early this morning (Thursday), marking a victory for Democratic-led states and a group of small businesses.
These businesses and states argued in their lawsuit that "Trump" misused emergency powers to justify the tariffs. The Republican president's administration can still appeal the decision to a federal court.
This ruling represents one of the biggest legal and political defeats Trump has faced so far, amid a wave of lawsuits concerning the executive orders he has issued since taking office in January.
