The closure of one of the main streets in the Sundus scheme in the Al-Waha neighborhood of Jeddah has caused repeated traffic congestion, amid the frustration of residents and road users due to the prolonged work period without any progress to restore normal traffic flow.
"Okaz" has observed a buildup of vehicles in the limited space available for passage, while the effects of the congestion have extended to the homes overlooking the road, where residents face repeated disturbances due to drivers using their car horns in an attempt to navigate the traffic jam.
Saeed Al-Zahrani explained that the residents' suffering has worsened coinciding with the return of schools and the resumption of official working hours, noting that traffic peaks during the morning hours, and congestion can sometimes lead to a complete stop of the road, causing delays for students and employees in reaching their destinations.
Abdulrahman Hareeq confirmed that the residents' objection is not related to the implementation of the project, as development and maintenance work is a necessary requirement, but rather due to the prolonged closure of the main street and the lack of alternative routes that can accommodate the traffic density, especially with the return of students and employees to their work.
Saleh Al-Masfar called on the relevant authorities to visit the site, investigate the reasons for the project's delay, and compel the executing company to expedite the work, while opening the largest possible area of the road and providing safe detours and traffic routes until the project is completed.
Residents of the scheme questioned the specified duration for completing the project and the justifications for the continued closure of about 90% of a main street serving the scheme, affirming that the implementation of development projects is essential, but it requires consideration of residents' interests and ensuring their safety and the smoothness of their movement.
