What is said about the origin of the Arabs being from Yemen (the region) is a misunderstanding that some historians have fallen into. Yemen, in the sense mentioned in the hadiths, refers to (the direction) and not the region; it is south of the Kaaba or the city of Mecca, or what is geographically south, while the Levant is to the north of them. In the two authentic collections (Sahihs), it is stated: (Faith is from Yemen and wisdom is Yemeni).
Ibn Hajar mentioned in Al-Fath: the intended meaning is the Ansar, as their origin is from Yemen (the Aws and Khazraj tribes). It has also been said that the attribution of faith to Mecca is because it is the origin of Yemen and is located to the right in relation to the city, or attributed to Mecca and Medina because they are Yemeni in relation to the Levant. It is said that this statement was made by the Prophet, peace be upon him, while he was in Tabuk.
In determining the identity of the Arabs and whether they originated from Yemen and then spread, it is noted that Adam and Eve descended in Jeddah or Mecca, as mentioned in some narratives. This implies that the beginning of civilization is from Mecca and the spread of humanity from there. When Ibrahim (Abraham) prayed: (So make hearts among the people inclined toward them), it indicates the proximity of the tribes to them, which means it is a familiar area.
There were Arab civilizations before the civilizations of the Yemen region, such as: "Dilmun" (Bahrain), which is considered one of the oldest civilizations of the Bronze Age, and "Magan" in the Sultanate of Oman and the Emirates, and the "Kingdom of the Nabataeans" in the north and Jordan and Palestine, and the "Kingdom of Dadan" and "Lihyan" in Al-Ula in northern Saudi Arabia, and the Arab kingdoms in "Qedar" and "Kinda," which arose in the central and northern Arabian Peninsula. The mention in the Holy Quran of the peoples of "Ad," "Thamud," and others indicates that limiting the Arabs and their origin to the Yemen region is somewhat unjust. This is not to belittle it but to give every right its due.
This does not deny the civilization of Yemen, but it does not make it unique. The journey of winter and summer and the trade routes for incense or spices indicate that Arab civilizations are distinguished, and that the origin of the Arabs is the Arabian Peninsula and not a specific region. What is mentioned in the texts of the Quran regarding the diversity of civilization, its tools, and its manifestations indicates that Mecca is the origin of the Arabs and indeed of humanity.
