The Saudi business community recently bid farewell to Engineer Zuhair Faiz, the founder of the most important consulting office in our country, which bears his name, after a life filled with achievements and successes. The late engineer was exceptional in every aspect of his life. He was a consummate professional, a devoted son, a righteous brother, a generous husband, a responsible father, a loyal friend, a distinguished social figure, a national icon symbolizing success, and a role model for others. He was a paragon of hard work, methodology, seriousness, and keen insight in evaluating people, qualifying them, launching projects, and following through until his well-known office transformed into a training workshop for dozens of talented Saudi engineers, the same office from which the most important designs for buildings that remain etched in the memory of Saudi architecture emerged.
I knew the late engineer closely and worked with him through my membership in several boards of trustees and management, and I personally witnessed how a dream turns into reality when he conceived the idea of establishing the first private college for girls in Saudi Arabia. He formed the administrative and academic teams while simultaneously securing the enormous funds required to finance this ambitious project. The project succeeded remarkably, and Dar Al-Hekma became the most prominent academic institution in the country. He (may God have mercy on him) was passionate about investing in the educational sector because he firmly believed that communities strengthen and improve by their ability to benefit from knowledge and learning.
He was elegant, distinguished, and exceptional, fearing God in his work and keen on justice and fairness with everyone he dealt with. He was a serious practitioner of various sports, but he had a passion for tennis and football. He engaged in sports out of a deep conviction of its obvious health benefits, but he also wanted to keep the idea of competition and passion alive within him, driving him to continuously strive to be better in every possible round, a principle he applied in his life in general. He was greatly influenced by the personality of his late uncle, Minister Hisham Nazer (may God have mercy on him), and he inherited many traits and qualities from him. It was no secret to anyone the special status the late engineer held with his uncle.
The late engineer had open doors for doing good and fulfilling people's needs; he never turned away anyone who approached him in need or request, while being very keen to keep this in secrecy and to shield the seeker of help. My tears mix as I write these words in mourning for a man who was among the most loyal, noble, and best of men, but I adhere to the words of our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: "Mention the virtues of your deceased." The business community received the news of the passing of "Abu Badr," as his loved ones fondly called him, with deep sadness, and their tears were a testament to the choking hearts. Zuhair Faiz has left our world, leaving behind a fragrant legacy and an everlasting heritage that deserves praise and appreciation. Here, I call upon his admirers to establish a national award in his name for the most important work in architectural designs. Everyone who knew him will miss him, and everyone who heard about him will long for him. May God have mercy on Zuhair Faiz and grant him vast paradise, and my sincere condolences to his loyal wife, his virtuous sons and daughters, and his esteemed brothers and sisters.. Indeed, we belong to God and to Him we shall return.
