I know the professionalism of my dear colleague Saleh Al-Amoudi, and how he possesses a very high journalistic sense. I understand his reluctance to engage in media squabbles, but what I know more about him is that he is a "dangerous" journalist who should never be underestimated; he has the ability to silence mouths with a single appearance, and he stifles many "colorful" voices with his eloquent pen and the "squeak" that pierces hearts and resides in minds with sharp critical words, found between the lines, through a refined language that carries much eloquence. At the same time, he is a "professor and head of department" in the art of indirect criticism, using "below-the-belt" strikes with utmost politeness, taste, and delicacy.
- I was surprised by his return to the world of words, he who had "divorced" journalism three times and decided of his own volition to "retire" at the peak of his glory to dedicate himself to worship and devote his time to memorizing the Holy Quran, a blessing from God after he chose and preferred Medina as his place of residence, according to what his dutiful son "Baraa" informed me, who resembles his father greatly in his good character and immense passion for the art of journalism and its burdens.
- Without a doubt, I was happy with this surprise, a return not driven by nostalgia for the word or longing for the profession of "troubles," but rather it came out of necessity, in loyalty to our sports history, and as a gesture of appreciation and loyalty to the late Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal, the pioneer and dean of the Saudi sports movement, after he found someone tampering with history and making unfounded claims about it, based on "historical" information attributed to him by brother Mohammed Al-Qudadi. Abu Wisam could not resist the "silence" that he had decided upon with no turning back; he felt compelled to write a conviction imposed by the "trust" documented in a book, which requires him not to allow, under any circumstances, any infringement on its historical content, and to honor it by authoring a book bearing his name.
Thus, his pen began to flow through the electronic newspaper Makkah, and through his famous column "Squeak," to recall that era and the essence of a legendary interview, which he preferred to present in consecutive parts, to reveal the "truth" documented with information, part of which he "excelled" in narrating verbatim, without addition or omission, while another part came through a dialogue that he re-published literally as it was spoken by His Highness without any distortion.
- Here, it was necessary to pause with the second part of Al-Amoudi's "Squeak," and that journalistic instinct that prompted him to re-publish that dialogue with all its spontaneity, credibility, and humility of a prince. He could have chosen to cut a part of his historical discussion regarding the dissolution of Al-Ittihad Club and suffice with a formulation that conveys the same meaning, but it seems that our "returning" colleague intentionally aimed to provide a "private" lesson for free on how to conduct journalistic interviews for those who cannot distinguish between a statement and a journalistic dialogue.
- Not only that, but here the "danger" of Al-Amoudi becomes clear through a message he wishes to convey, the essence of which is that any journalistic scoop should be well utilized by the journalist who understands the fundamentals of the profession; as it is a golden opportunity that he must not miss, to emerge from that dialogue with substantial material that clarifies the points, carrying within it the required "literary courage" and at the same time providing historical informational nourishment, better and more beneficial than statements and dialogues aimed closer to self-service, having no relation to history either in form or content, "hovering around the fever," far from the public interest, but rather reinforcing a culture of confusion, obscuring the truth, and misleading public opinion.
- Truly, I was greatly impressed by this wonderful stance from my "loyal" colleague Saleh Al-Amoudi when he published his dialogue with Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal, as if he were supporting what I had previously proposed in an article published here in "Okaz," hoping that it achieves the desired benefit and that those concerned with it can benefit, "and every wise person understands with a hint," instead of a dialogue or statement that revolves in a vicious circle, dominated by rhetorical phrases and a "drowning" state seeking salvation, even if he tried to seek assistance from those who could rescue him twice after he "failed" to save someone who lost their credibility.
