The Saudi woman has a significant and prominent impact on charitable work in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; a number of women have emerged who played roles and participated in charitable work, immortalizing their legacy as pioneers in various fields of charity, such as dedicating endowments for the spending on the poor and needy, or endowments for books for students of knowledge. This indicates their keen interest in providing sources of knowledge for members of the community, as they understand that knowledge and learning are indicators of advanced societies and a measure of development.
Endowments for books were of high importance and utmost necessity during one period in history due to their scarcity and the difficulty of accessing them. One of the prominent female figures from the royal family who played a role in book endowments was Princess Noura bint Faisal bin Turki Al Saud, who was interested in knowledge and its dissemination. She endowed a copy of "The Path of the Two Migrations and the Gate of the Two Happinesses" by Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah in the year (1276 AH/1859 AD), and she endowed two books by Al-Bukhari: "Sahih Al-Bukhari," which she endowed in the year (1277 AH/1860 AD), and the book "Al-Adab Al-Mufrad," which she endowed in the year (1278 AH/1862 AD). She also endowed the book "Al-Rawd Al-Murabba' Sharh Zad Al-Mustaqni'" by Mansour Al-Bahooti. Among the pioneers in book endowments is also Princess Munirah bint Mashari bin Hassan Al Saud (the wife of Imam Faisal bin Turki), who endowed a copy of the book "Purification of Belief from the Stains of Atheism" by Al-San'ani, and Princess Jawhara bint Faisal bin Turki Al Saud, who was interested in collecting books and making them an endowment for students of knowledge, including the book "Hadi Al-Arwah ila Bilad Al-Afrah" by Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah. Following in her footsteps was her niece, Imam Abdullah bin Faisal's daughter (the third Imam of the Saudi state in its second phase), Princess Sarah bint Abdullah bin Faisal bin Turki Al Saud, who also endowed many books, including "The Path of the Two Migrations and the Gate of the Two Happinesses" by Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah, "Sahih Al-Bukhari," and "Sunan Abi Dawood." It should be noted that some of these endowed books are preserved in the King Fahd National Library.
It is noticeable that there is a similarity in some titles of the endowed books, making it clear to the observer the philosophy followed in their endowment, which is to build and form communities capable of construction, production, and protecting themselves and their homeland; for knowledge is the mirror of nations, and through it, they rise. Moreover, these scientific endowments have many dimensions, including investing in people and ensuring the quality of their lives, managing and exchanging knowledge, and ensuring the sustainability of that knowledge and its transmission between generations.
In summary, women in the royal family have made extensive contributions to various charitable women's works that have extended to encompass all areas of social, cultural, and economic life, manifested in spending on large numbers of scholars, students, the poor, widows, orphans, and other forms of benefit and charitable fields.
