Where is the surprise when Israel bombs the only medical facility still operating in southern Gaza after rendering the rest completely out of service, claiming the lives of 20 people, including five journalists?
This behavior is the usual conduct that Israel has practiced since the beginning of the Gaza war, and long before that. The targets that pique its appetite the most are non-military ones. Health facilities, schools, shelters, humanitarian headquarters, food and medicine warehouses, and everything that falls under that category. Therefore, what it did on Monday by bombing the Nasser Medical Complex is neither new nor surprising; it is its natural behavior that it practices in front of the world, and it acknowledges and boasts about it.
As usual, statements of condemnation and denunciation for what Israel did emerged from many capitals around the world, but we are particularly interested in Washington. President Trump expressed his concern over what happened in Gaza, stating, "The situation in Gaza is horrific, and the war must end due to the hunger and death it causes. We must end this nightmare. I am not satisfied with this war, and it will witness a decisive end within two or three weeks." Since Trump arrived at the White House, he has promised to end this war and others, but it is still unclear exactly what he means by that the Gaza war must end, how it will end, and for whose benefit it will end—whether for the legitimate rights and humanity to save what remains of the people of Gaza and ensure the dignity of their lives, or for the benefit of the Israeli government's plan to completely militarily occupy Gaza and eliminate those who remain through killing and displacement.
This is the dilemma for which we want a clear position: Is President Trump in favor of a just and final solution to save Gaza from destruction, killing, starvation, and displacement, or is he in favor of Israel's project to impose its military reality on the entire region as a launchpad for its illusion of Greater Israel, continuing to commit the worst violations against the Palestinian people?
On the same day that Israel carried out its latest operation, foreign ministers of the Islamic world were holding their meeting in Jeddah to reaffirm their renewed rejection of everything Israel is doing. This is a significant bloc whose influence should not be underestimated. Additionally, a large number of important countries in the East and West have decided to recognize the Palestinian state and have openly condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression. Therefore, will the anticipated solution that President Trump spoke of be capable of stopping the Israeli savagery and limiting the worst outcomes in the region, or is it something else? Will he be with the world or with Israel against the world?
