In a dangerous shift revealing the first battles for control over artificial intelligence, the media war is no longer directed at individuals and the human audience, but has turned directly to the "brains" of robots and generative platforms, foremost among them ChatGPT and Gemini, to reshape their narrative about the events in Gaza and the displacement of Palestinians.
The behind-the-scenes of this diplomatic trick has been unveiled by an investigation from the British newspaper "The Guardian," announcing a secret campaign funded by the Israeli government with tens of millions of dollars that created a phantom entity under the name "Hanover Institute for Public Policy," which is a website that has no legal existence or a referenced headquarters, and no known real employees or researchers.
The main goal of the project was to flood the network with pro-Israel information by injecting 560,000 words in just 9 days, all framed as precise questions posed by users of chatbots daily. By using advanced techniques known as "AI Engine Optimization" (GEO), the campaign's organizers sought to integrate this report into the vast data repositories (such as Common Crawl) that global companies rely on to train upcoming AI models.
Despite Tel Aviv denying the management of foreign influence operations within Washington, and the executing company in New York confirming that the goal is to provide "verified information," the operation revealed a new pattern of propaganda that relies on "data laundering" and contaminating the memory of machines to make the obfuscation of facts sustainable and difficult to uncover in the future.
