أمرت المحكمة العليا في باكستان، اليوم (الثلاثاء)، السلطات بنقل رئيس الوزراء السابق عمران خان، المحتجز في السجن، إلى مستشفى خاص في العاصمة إسلام آباد لإجراء فحوص طبية، وذلك بعد أشهر من المخاوف التي أثارتها أسرته وأطباؤه الشخصيون بشأن حالته الصحية ومدى حصوله على الرعاية الطبية المناسبة.
وأصدرت هيئة قضائية مكونة من ثلاثة قضاة قرارًا بنقل خان إلى مستشفى شيفا الدولي في إسلام آباد خلال الأيام القادمة، على أن يخضع لفحص طبي شامل من جانب لجنة تضم عددًا من الأطباء المتخصصين، إلى جانب طبيبه الشخصي فيصل سلطان.
السماح بزيارات أسبوعية واتصالات بأبنائه
ولم يقتصر قرار المحكمة على الجانب الطبي، إذ أمرت سلطات السجن بالسماح لعمران خان بعقد لقاءات أسبوعية مع أفراد أسرته، وإجراء اتصالات هاتفية مع أبنائه.
وكانت أسرة خان قد واجهت خلال الفترة الماضية صعوبات في الوصول إليه، فضلًا عن محاولاتها السماح لأطباء يختارهم شخصيًا بفحصه ومتابعة حالته الصحية.
وكانت السلطات الباكستانية قد منعت الزيارات إلى السجن في وقت سابق من العام، بعد تلقيها معلومات استخباراتية بشأن احتمال وقوع هجوم على المنشأة التي يُحتجز فيها رئيس الوزراء السابق.
صحة خان وحقه في الرعاية الطبية أولوية
وجاء القرار بعد أشهر من تقدم عمران خان بطلب إلى المحكمة، طالب فيه بنقله من السجن شديد الحراسة في مدينة راولبندي، القريبة من إسلام آباد، إلى أحد المستشفيات، والسماح له بالحصول على الرعاية الطبية من أطبائه الشخصيين، إلى جانب تمكين أسرته ومحاميه من الوصول إليه.
وقال محامي خان، سلمان أكرم راجا، إن المحكمة أصدرت قرارها انطلاقًا من أن صحة موكله أصبحت على المحك، مؤكدًا أن الحصول على الرعاية الطبية حق تكفله الدستورية الباكستانية.
وفي الوقت نفسه، دعا راجا أنصار عمران خان إلى عدم التجمع أمام المستشفى عند نقله إليه، مطالبًا إياهم بعدم التسبب في إزعاج للمرضى الآخرين.
أزمة في العين أثارت مخاوف بشأن صحته
وكان عمران خان قد نُقل عدة مرات في وقت سابق من العام إلى مستشفى حكومي لتلقي العلاج من مشكلة صحية في العين.
وتصاعدت المخاوف بشأن حالته في أواخر يناير، بعدما أعلنت أسرته أنه فقد نحو 85% من الرؤية في عينه اليمنى، وهو ما نفته الحكومة في حينه.
وفي وقت لاحق، قالت السلطات إن خان استعاد نحو 70% من الرؤية في العين المتضررة، وإن حالته الصحية بدأت تتحسن.
ويأتي قرار المحكمة في ظل استمرار المطالب بالسماح لعمران خان بالحصول على رعاية طبية من أطباء يثق بهم، وسط خلافات بين أسرته والسلطات بشأن مستوى الرعاية التي يتلقاها داخل السجن.
من ملعب الكريكيت إلى رئاسة الحكومة والسجن
ويقضي عمران خان، نجم الكريكيت السابق الذي تحول إلى العمل السياسي، عقوبة بالسجن منذ عام 2023، بعدما أُدين في قضية فساد.
وكان خان قد أُطيح به من منصب رئيس الوزراء في أبريل 2022، إثر تصويت بحجب الثقة في البرلمان.
ومنذ خروجه من السلطة، ظل خان يؤكد أن إطاحته كانت نتيجة مؤامرة مدعومة من الولايات المتحدة شارك فيها خصومه السياسيون وقائد الجيش الباكستاني السابق قمر جاويد باجوا.
وتنفي الولايات المتحدة والجيش الباكستاني وخصوم خان السياسيون هذه الاتهامات.
حضور سياسي رغم السجن
ورغم سجنه وتعدد القضايا والأحكام القضائية المرتبطة به، لا يزال عمران خان يحتفظ بمكانة بارزة في المشهد السياسي الباكستاني، كما يحظى بقاعدة شعبية واسعة.
ويُنظر إلى أي تطور يتعلق بوضعه الصحي أو القانوني باعتباره قضية سياسية مهمة في باكستان، في ظل استمرار أنصاره في المطالبة بالإفراج عنه وتحسين ظروف احتجازه.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered today (Tuesday) the authorities to transfer former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is being held in prison, to a private hospital in the capital, Islamabad, for medical examinations. This comes after months of concerns raised by his family and personal doctors regarding his health condition and the adequacy of his medical care.
A judicial panel consisting of three judges issued a ruling to transfer Khan to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad in the coming days, where he will undergo a comprehensive medical examination by a committee of several specialized doctors, along with his personal physician, Faisal Sultan.
Allowing Weekly Visits and Communication with His Children
The court's decision was not limited to the medical aspect; it also ordered prison authorities to allow Imran Khan to have weekly meetings with family members and to make phone calls to his children.
Khan's family had faced difficulties in accessing him in recent times, in addition to their attempts to allow doctors of their choosing to examine him and monitor his health condition.
The Pakistani authorities had previously banned visits to the prison earlier this year after receiving intelligence information about a potential attack on the facility where the former prime minister is held.
Khan's Health and His Right to Medical Care Are a Priority
The decision came after months of Imran Khan filing a request with the court, asking for his transfer from the high-security prison in Rawalpindi, near Islamabad, to a hospital and to be allowed to receive medical care from his personal doctors, as well as enabling his family and lawyer to access him.
Khan's lawyer, Salman Akram Raja, stated that the court issued its ruling based on the fact that his client's health was at risk, emphasizing that obtaining medical care is a right guaranteed by the Pakistani constitution.
At the same time, Raja urged Imran Khan's supporters not to gather outside the hospital when he is transferred there, asking them not to cause inconvenience to other patients.
Eye Crisis Raised Concerns About His Health
Imran Khan had been transferred several times earlier this year to a government hospital to receive treatment for an eye health issue.
Concerns about his condition escalated in late January when his family announced that he had lost about 85% of his vision in his right eye, which the government denied at the time.
Later, authorities stated that Khan had regained about 70% of his vision in the affected eye and that his health condition was beginning to improve.
The court's decision comes amid ongoing demands to allow Imran Khan to receive medical care from trusted doctors, amidst disputes between his family and the authorities regarding the level of care he receives in prison.
From Cricket Field to Government Leadership and Prison
Imran Khan, a former cricket star turned politician, has been serving a prison sentence since 2023 after being convicted in a corruption case.
Khan was ousted from the position of Prime Minister in April 2022 following a vote of no confidence in parliament.
Since his removal from power, Khan has maintained that his ousting was the result of a conspiracy supported by the United States involving his political opponents and former Pakistani Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa.
The United States, the Pakistani military, and Khan's political opponents deny these allegations.
Political Presence Despite Imprisonment
Despite his imprisonment and the numerous cases and court rulings against him, Imran Khan still holds a prominent position in the Pakistani political landscape and enjoys a broad popular base.
Any development related to his health or legal status is viewed as a significant political issue in Pakistan, as his supporters continue to demand his release and improved conditions of his detention.
