In a medical revelation that represents a lifeline for millions of people around the world, American scientists have announced good news that could change the future of aging disease prevention; confirming that adhering to three simple daily habits in midlife can delay the onset of dementia and Alzheimer's symptoms by up to a full 13 years.
The historic study conducted by the Langone Health Center at New York University and published in the journal "Neurology" tracked the cases of more than 12,000 individuals over 26 years, proving that your health decisions in your forties and fifties shape your brain health in your eighties.
What are these three habits?
The lead researcher of the study, Dr. Joseph Kourysh, explained that avoiding three major risk factors during the ages of 45 to 65 provides exceptional protection for the brain. These habits are summarized as follows:
- Controlling blood pressure: maintaining normal levels to protect the blood vessels in the brain.
- Avoiding diabetes: managing sugar levels through balanced nutrition and lifestyle.
- Complete abstinence from smoking: to protect nerve cells from oxidation and early decline.
Follow-up results showed that individuals who reached the age of 55 without suffering from diabetes or high blood pressure while abstaining from smoking enjoyed an additional 30.1 years of life completely free from dementia.
In contrast, this average sharply declined for those who had all three risk factors, dropping to just 17 years, which means that early prevention grants a person more than a full decade of memory health and independent living away from the nightmare of Alzheimer's.
