وقال الشريف جون بودنسيك إن الحالة تعد «الأسوأ» التي شاهدها خلال عمله، موضحًا أن فرق مراقبة الحيوانات حاولت دخول المنزل لنحو أسبوع، إلا أن مالكته غيل جوستينو رفضت التعاون قبل تدخل السلطات وإنقاذ الحيوانات.
وأثارت الواقعة قلق سكان الحي، خصوصًا ممن فقدوا قططهم خلال السنوات الماضية، بعدما ظهرت تساؤلات حول احتمال وجود حيوانات أليفة مفقودة بين القطط التي عُثر عليها داخل المنزل.
وأشار المحققون إلى أن جوستينو ربما جمعت عددًا من القطط خلال فترة عملها السابقة كساعية بريد، وهي الوظيفة التي بدأت بها عام 1997 وفقًا لبيانات هيئة البريد الأمريكية.
وتحدثت إحدى سكان المنطقة عن فقدان قطتها «سافانا» قبل ثلاث سنوات، معربة عن قلقها من احتمال أن تكون ضمن القطط التي تم إنقاذها، فيما عبّر عدد آخر من السكان عن مخاوف مشابهة وطالبوا بالكشف عن هوية الحيوانات.
وتواجه جوستينو اتهامات بالقسوة على الحيوانات واحتجازها، فيما تواصل السلطات تحقيقاتها لتحديد ظروف احتجاز الحيوانات، ومعرفة ما إذا كان بعضها يعود إلى أصحابها الأصليين، داعية السكان إلى الإبلاغ عن أي حيوانات أليفة مفقودة.

Authorities arrested a 77-year-old woman in Stuart, Florida, after finding 92 animals inside her home, including 80 cats and 12 dogs, in what has been described as one of the largest cases of animal hoarding that local officials have dealt with in the area.
Sheriff John Budensick stated that the case is the "worst" he has seen during his career, explaining that animal control teams attempted to enter the home for about a week, but its owner, Gail Giustino, refused to cooperate until authorities intervened and rescued the animals.
The incident raised concerns among neighborhood residents, especially those who had lost their cats over the past few years, as questions arose about the possibility of missing pets being among the cats found inside the house.
Investigators noted that Giustino may have collected a number of cats during her previous job as a mail carrier, a position she began in 1997 according to data from the U.S. Postal Service.
One local resident spoke about losing her cat "Savannah" three years ago, expressing her worry that it might be among the rescued cats, while several other residents voiced similar concerns and called for the identification of the animals.
Giustino faces charges of animal cruelty and confinement, while authorities continue their investigation to determine the conditions under which the animals were kept and whether some belong to their original owners, urging residents to report any missing pets.
