تحولت سماء محافظة القليوبية المصرية إلى سحابة كثيفة ومرعبة من الدخان الأسود الغامق، إثر اندلاع حريق هائل ومروع داخل مصنع ضخم للكيماويات واقع على طريق «مصر – الإسماعيلية»، في مشهد حبس الأنفاس وأثار حالة عارمة من الذعر والهلع بين السكان، مما دفع السلطات إلى استنفار أمني وتأهب غير مسبوق للسيطرة على النيران.
ومع تصاعد ألسنة اللهب العملاقة بسرعة جنونية نتيجة التهامها للمواد الكيميائية سريعة الاشتعال، بدا وكأن الحريق يخرج تماماً عن السيطرة في ساعاته الأولى، مما جعل الأجهزة المعنية تدفع بتعزيزات عاجلة وعشرات المركبات وفرق الطوارئ في سباق شرس مع الزمن، لمنع تحول الكارثة إلى سلسلة انفجارات متتالية أو امتداد النيران إلى المصانع والمنشآت الاقتصادية المجاورة.
كان المشهد على الأرض أشبه بمعركة مفتوحة، إذ شاركت 30 سيارة إطفاء وإسعاف بالكامل في مواجهة النيران المستعرة التي استمرت لأكثر من أربع ساعات متواصلة.
وفي خطوة لافتة، لجات قوات الحماية المدنية إلى تقنية ذكية وغير معتادة في مثل هذه الحوادث، عبر الاستعانة بطائرات مسيّرة (Drones) لرصد بؤر الاشتعال من الجو، وتوجيه فرق الإطفاء لاسلكياً نحو أخطر النقاط الحساسة داخل المصنع المنكوب.
وفي الوقت ذاته، وسعياً لتأمين الأرواح، سارعت السلطات المحلية إلى فصل شبكات الغاز الطبيعي والتيار الكهربائي عن المنطقة المحيطة بالكامل، مع فرض طوق أمني واسع النطاق خشية تطاير الشرر، خصوصاً مع استمرار تصاعد الأدخنة الكثيفة التي شوهدت بوضوح من مسافات بعيدة خارج المحافظة.
وبحسب المعاينات الرسمية الأولية، فإن طبيعة المواد الكيميائية المخزنة في ثنايا المصنع لعبت دوراً رئيسياً في اتساع رقعة الحريق وصعوبة احتوائه في البداية، مما تطلب إمدادات متتالية من خزانات المياه الضخمة التابعة للحماية المدنية حتى نجحت الفرق أخيراً في تطويق النيران وإعلان السيطرة الكاملة وبدء عمليات التبريد المكثفة.
ومع انقشاع الدخان تدريجياً، انتقل خبراء المعمل الجنائي للموقع لفحص آثار الحادثة، فيما أمرت النيابة العامة بتشكيل لجنة فنية متخصصة لفحص ملابسات الحريق بدقة، وتحديد مدى التزام إدارة المصنع بإجراءات السلامة والأمن الصناعي، في حادثة أعادت إلى الواجهة المخاوف من مخاطر المنشآت التي تتعامل مع المواد الكيميائية سريعة الاشتعال.
The sky over Qalyubia Governorate in Egypt turned into a dense and terrifying cloud of dark black smoke, following the outbreak of a huge and horrifying fire inside a massive chemical factory located on the "Cairo - Ismailia" road, in a scene that took breath away and triggered widespread panic and terror among residents, prompting authorities to mobilize security forces and unprecedented readiness to control the flames.
As the giant tongues of fire rapidly escalated due to the consumption of highly flammable chemicals, it seemed as if the fire was completely out of control in its early hours, leading the relevant agencies to dispatch urgent reinforcements and dozens of vehicles and emergency teams in a fierce race against time to prevent the disaster from turning into a series of successive explosions or the flames spreading to neighboring factories and economic facilities.
The scene on the ground resembled an open battle, as 30 firefighting and ambulance vehicles fully participated in combating the raging flames that lasted for more than four continuous hours.
In a notable step, the civil protection forces resorted to an innovative and unusual technique in such incidents, by utilizing drones to monitor hotspots from the air and directing firefighting teams wirelessly towards the most critical sensitive points inside the stricken factory.
At the same time, in an effort to secure lives, local authorities rushed to disconnect natural gas and electricity networks from the entire surrounding area, imposing a wide security cordon for fear of sparks flying, especially with the continued rise of thick smoke that was clearly visible from far distances outside the governorate.
According to preliminary official assessments, the nature of the chemicals stored within the factory played a key role in the expansion of the fire and the difficulty of containing it initially, which required successive supplies from the massive water tanks belonging to the civil protection until the teams finally succeeded in encircling the flames and declaring full control and the start of intensive cooling operations.
As the smoke gradually dissipated, forensic experts moved to the site to examine the aftermath of the incident, while the public prosecution ordered the formation of a specialized technical committee to thoroughly investigate the circumstances of the fire and determine the extent of the factory management's compliance with safety and industrial security procedures, in an incident that brought back concerns about the risks of facilities dealing with highly flammable chemicals.
