لم يتجاوز الأمر سوى جلوس طويل في غرفة الانتظار مع توجيهات عامة من الممرضات. ومع مرور الوقت، قرر الأب أن طفح ابنه لا يستحق كل هذا الانتظار، فغادر المستشفى من دون فحص أو وصفة طبية.
تدخل إعلامي يغير الموقف
الصدمة الأكبر كانت عندما تلقى لاحقاً فاتورة باهظة من المستشفى مقابل «زيارة طوارئ» لم تحدث أساساً. وبعد محاولات فاشلة للاعتراض، لجأ ياشيميك إلى برنامج محلي استقصائي مختص في قضايا المستهلك. وما إن سُلِّط الضوء إعلامياً على القضية، حتى تراجعت إدارة المستشفى عن الفاتورة وألغتها.

أثارت الحادثة انتقادات واسعة للنظام الصحي في الولايات المتحدة، حيث يرى كثيرون أن مثل هذه الفواتير تعكس خللاً بنيوياً وغياب العدالة مقارنة بدول أخرى توفر تغطية شاملة أو مجانية لخدمات الطوارئ.

It was nothing more than a long wait in the waiting room with general directions from the nurses. As time passed, the father decided that his son's rash was not worth all this waiting, so he left the hospital without an examination or prescription.
Media Intervention Changes the Situation
The biggest shock came when he later received an exorbitant bill from the hospital for an "emergency visit" that had not actually occurred. After unsuccessful attempts to contest the bill, Yashimek turned to a local investigative program specializing in consumer issues. Once the case was highlighted in the media, the hospital administration retracted the bill and canceled it.
