أطلقت السلطات الهولندية عملية إنقاذ واسعة بعد أن أوقف سائق شاحنة هنغاري مركبته على جسر قرب مدينة دوردريخت وقفز إلى مياه نهر «هولاندس دييب»، في حادثة اعتُقد في البداية أنها محاولة انتحار.
وبحسب بيان للشرطة، هرعت قوات الطوارئ (بينها فرق الإطفاء والإسعاف والإنقاذ البحري إضافة إلى هيلوكوبتر) إلى موقع الحادث عند جسر «مويردايك»، بعد تلقي بلاغ عن سائق ترك شاحنته على جانب الطريق واختفى.
لكن سرعان ما تبيّن أن الرجل لم يكن يحاول إيذاء نفسه، بل قفز إلى الماء هربًا من الحرارة الشديدة التي تضرب البلاد هذا الصيف. وقد أنقذه أحد المارة بقارب قبل وصول فرق الإنقاذ، ليظهر أمام الشرطة مبتلًا لكن بحالة جيدة.
أوضحت الشرطة أن السائق واجه لاحقًا غرامة مالية بسبب التوقف غير القانوني والقفز من الجسر، فيما تحولت الحادثة إلى قصة طريفة يتناقلها السائقون في أوروبا، في ظل موجات الحر المتزايدة التي تشهدها القارة.
The Dutch authorities launched a large-scale rescue operation after a Hungarian truck driver stopped his vehicle on a bridge near the city of Dordrecht and jumped into the waters of the "Hollands Diep" river, in an incident initially believed to be a suicide attempt.
According to a police statement, emergency forces (including fire, ambulance, and marine rescue teams, as well as a helicopter) rushed to the scene at the "Moerdijk" bridge after receiving a report about a driver who left his truck on the side of the road and disappeared.
However, it soon became clear that the man was not trying to harm himself but had jumped into the water to escape the extreme heat hitting the country this summer. He was rescued by a passerby in a boat before the rescue teams arrived, appearing before the police wet but in good condition.
The police explained that the driver later faced a fine for illegal stopping and jumping from the bridge, while the incident turned into a humorous story shared among drivers in Europe, amid the increasing heatwaves affecting the continent.
