لقي ما لا يقل عن 6 سياح حتفهم، ولا يزال العديد منهم في عداد المفقودين، في حادثة انهيار جسر حديدي قديم، فوق نهر إندراياني، في منطقة كوندمالا في تالوكا مافال بولاية ماهاراشترا الهندية، في كارثة مأساوية ظهر اليوم (الأحد)، وفقاً لتصريحات رئيس وزراء ولاية ماهاراشترا ديفيندرا فادنافيس.
ووقعت الحادثة نحو الساعة 3:30 عصراً بالتوقيت المحلي في منطقة سياحية شهيرة تشهد إقبالاً كبيراً خلال عطلات نهاية الأسبوع بسبب موسم الرياح الموسمية، مما زاد من عدد الزوار على الجسر البالغ عمره نحو 30 عاماً.
ووفقاً لشرطة بيمبري-تشينشواد، يُخشى أن يكون ما بين 10 إلى 15 شخصاً ما زالوا محاصرين تحت الأنقاض، فيما جُرفت أعداد أخرى بمياه النهر المتدفقة بقوة نتيجة الأمطار الغزيرة التي شهدتها المنطقة خلال اليومين الماضيين، وقد هرعت فرق الإنقاذ، بما في ذلك فرق من قوات الاستجابة للكوارث الوطنية (NDRF) والشرطة المحلية والقرويين، إلى موقع الحادثة لإجراء عمليات البحث والإنقاذ، إذ تم إنقاذ ما بين خمسة إلى سبعة أشخاص حتى الآن، ونُقلوا إلى المستشفيات لتلقي العلاج.
وأشار النائب عن منطقة مافال، سونيل شيلكه، إلى أن الجسر كان مكتظاً بنحو 100 سائح عندما انهار فجأة، مضيفاً أن بعض الأشخاص تمكنوا من السباحة إلى الشاطئ بأمان، وأوضحت تقارير أن الجسر، الذي يُعرف أيضاً باسم جسر كوندمالا، كان مغلقاً إدارياً قبل أشهر بسبب حالته المتدهورة، لكن الزوار تجاهلوا التحذيرات واستخدموه لعبور النهر أو التقاط الصور، وتُجري السلطات تحقيقاً لتحديد أسباب الانهيار، مع ترجيحات بأن الازدحام الزائد وارتفاع منسوب المياه بسبب الأمطار ساهما في الحادثة.
وتُعد منطقة كوندمالا، القريبة من بلدة تاليجاون دابادي في تالوكا مافال، وجهة سياحية شهيرة في ولاية ماهاراشترا، خصوصاً خلال موسم الرياح الموسمية، إذ يقصدها السياح للاستمتاع بالمناظر الطبيعية الخلابة والبحيرات والشلالات المحيطة بنهر إندراياني، ويُعتبر النهر نفسه موقعاً ذا أهمية دينية وسياحية، إذ يجذب الزوار على مدار العام، خصوصاً في عطلات نهاية الأسبوع والأعياد.
ويبلغ عمر الجسر الحديدي المنهار نحو ثلاثة عقود، وكان يُستخدم كممر للمشاة لعبور النهر، ورغم تحذيرات سابقة بشأن حالته المتدهورة، لم يتم إجراء صيانة كافية أو فرض إغلاق صارم. وتشير تقارير سابقة إلى حوادث مشابهة في المنطقة، مثل انهيار جسر آخر فوق نهر إندراياني في قرية آمبي عام 2019، والذي لم يسفر عن ضحايا ولكنه أثار مخاوف بشأن سلامة البنية التحتية القديمة في المنطقة.
At least 6 tourists have died, and many others are still missing, in an incident involving the collapse of an old iron bridge over the Indrayani River in the Kundmala area of Taluka Maval in the Indian state of Maharashtra, in a tragic disaster that occurred this morning (Sunday), according to statements from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The incident took place around 3:30 PM local time in a popular tourist area that sees a large influx during weekends due to the monsoon season, which increased the number of visitors on the bridge that is about 30 years old.
According to Pimpri-Chinchwad police, between 10 to 15 people are feared to be trapped under the rubble, while others were swept away by the river's strong currents due to the heavy rains that the area experienced over the past two days. Rescue teams, including teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local police, and villagers, rushed to the scene to conduct search and rescue operations, with between five to seven people rescued so far and taken to hospitals for treatment.
Sunil Shelke, the representative for the Maval area, noted that the bridge was crowded with about 100 tourists when it suddenly collapsed, adding that some people managed to swim to safety. Reports indicated that the bridge, also known as the Kundmala Bridge, had been administratively closed months ago due to its deteriorating condition, but visitors ignored the warnings and used it to cross the river or take photos. Authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the causes of the collapse, with indications that overcrowding and rising water levels due to the rains contributed to the incident.
The Kundmala area, near the town of Taligaon Dabhadi in Taluka Maval, is a popular tourist destination in Maharashtra, especially during the monsoon season, as tourists flock there to enjoy the stunning landscapes, lakes, and waterfalls surrounding the Indrayani River. The river itself is considered a site of religious and touristic significance, attracting visitors year-round, especially on weekends and holidays.
The collapsed iron bridge is about three decades old and was used as a pedestrian passage to cross the river. Despite previous warnings about its deteriorating condition, no adequate maintenance was carried out, nor was strict closure enforced. Previous reports indicate similar incidents in the area, such as the collapse of another bridge over the Indrayani River in the village of Ambe in 2019, which did not result in casualties but raised concerns about the safety of old infrastructure in the region.
