The coach of the Riyadh team, "Spanish" Javier Calleja, confirmed that his team gained several positive outcomes from their match against Al-Hilal despite losing 2-0 in the encounter held at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, as part of the first round of the Saudi Professional League for football. He pointed out that his players competed well and presented a remarkable performance against Al-Hilal.
Calleja explained in the press conference after the match: "In the second half, we took a step forward and succeeded in creating opportunities that could have reduced the deficit, but we must realize that Al-Hilal's goals are completely different from ours, and yet we can take away many positives from this encounter."
He added: "Al-Hilal's players possess a high level, and it is difficult to take the ball away from them. Our plan was to press higher, and I believe the team, in general, presented a positive image, and we just need to review some mistakes; for example, the first goal could have been avoided."
The Riyadh coach revealed that his players wished to have a training session at the Kingdom Arena before the match, but that did not happen, which could have helped them acclimate to the match atmosphere.
He concluded his statements by saying: "It is true that we have some shorter players, but on the other hand, we have tall defenders who give us strength in aerial balls, and we will work on compensating for the differences by having more possession of the ball, reducing mistakes in our half, and playing more in the opponent's half."
