قرر الاتحاد الآسيوي لكرة القدم، بزيادة مقاعد بطولة دوري أبطال آسيا للنخبة ودوري أبطال آسيا 2،
بعد التفوق الكبير لأندية السعودية واليابان في المسابقتين، حيث رفع حصة الدولتين لـ 6 مقاعد، ووفقاً للمقترح، الذي تم تداوله، ستحصل السعودية واليابان على 3 مقاعد مباشرة في بطولة النخبة، إلى جانب مقعدين إضافيين عبر الملحق، مع تخصيص مقعد مباشر واحد لكل منهما في بطولة دوري أبطال آسيا 2، وبذلك تتجدّد آمال جماهير الاتحاد والاتفاق والتعاون في الظهور القاري، خصوصاً الاتحاد الذي يسعى لمصالحة جماهيره بعد الخروج المر من المسابقة الحالية، وبذلك ستكون مقاعد الأندية السعودية في البطولة القارية على النحو التالي:
• الأول والثاني والثالث — التأهل مباشرة للنخبة الآسيوية
• الرابع والخامس — التأهل للملحق
• السادس — التأهل لآسيا 2
The Asian Football Confederation has decided to increase the number of spots for the elite AFC Champions League and AFC Champions League 2,
after the significant success of clubs from Saudi Arabia and Japan in both competitions, raising the quota for the two countries to 6 spots. According to the proposal that has been circulated, Saudi Arabia and Japan will receive 3 direct spots in the elite tournament, along with 2 additional spots through the playoff, with one direct spot allocated to each in the AFC Champions League 2. This renews the hopes of the fans of Al-Ittihad, Al-Ettifaq, and Al-Taawoun for continental appearances, especially Al-Ittihad, which seeks to reconcile with its fans after the bitter exit from the current competition. Thus, the spots for Saudi clubs in the continental tournament will be as follows:
• First, second, and third — direct qualification for the Asian elite
• Fourth and fifth — qualification for the playoff
• Sixth — qualification for Asia 2
