The American Football League announced disciplinary decisions regarding the incidents that occurred between the Seattle Sounders and Inter Miami in the final of the American-Mexican Cup.

Although the tournament organizing committee issued a decision to suspend Luis Suárez for 6 matches in the upcoming edition, the American Soccer League imposed a new penalty on him, as well as two additional penalties against the Seattle Sounders. The three decisions are as follows:

Uruguayan Luis Suárez, forward for Inter Miami, has been suspended for three matches in the regular season of Major League Soccer (MLS). Suárez will serve his suspension for three matches on September 13 against Charlotte, September 16 against Seattle Sounders, and September 20 against D.C. United.

Suárez was suspended for spitting at one of the officials of the Seattle Sounders. The player Suárez is known for his habit of biting players and has been suspended multiple times.

The second decision was to revoke the accreditation privileges of Stephen Lehnert (an employee of the Seattle Sounders) for the remainder of the 2025 regular season of Major League Soccer (MLS) and postseason matches. He will only be allowed in public areas designated for fans during Seattle Sounders home matches and will not be permitted on the field or near it, nor in the locker rooms or around them, or in the tunnel. His entry privileges will be reviewed before the 2026 season of Major League Soccer (MLS).

Finally, the Seattle Sounders have been fined an undisclosed amount for the misuse of accreditations.
