تأهل منتخبنا الوطني السعودي تحت 20 سنة لكرة القدم لنهائي كأس الخليج العربي للشباب في نسخته الأولى بعد فوزه على نظيره منتخب العراق بهدفين لهدف، في اللقاء الذي جمعهما على استاد مدينة الأمير سلطان بن عبدالعزيز الرياضية بالمحالة في نصف نهائي البطولة.
دخل الأخضر السعودي اللقاء بتشكيلة مكونة من: عبدالله المحيسن (حارس مرمى)، ياسر الظفيري، أمجد حراج، محمد فلاتة، فارس بن سالم، محمد الصرنوخ، محمد القحطاني، طلال حارثي، إلياس أبو بكر، عبدالعزيز الشمري، عبدالرحمن السفياني، وسيطر منتخبنا الوطني على مجريات اللقاء، وفي الدقائق الأولى لعب محمد الصرنوخ كرة عرضية عالية قفز لها المهاجم عبدالعزيز الشمري ولعبها برأسه في المرمى العراقي كهدف أول للسعودية (د: 9)، وكاد المنتخب العراقي أن يعود سريعاً للقاء بعد أن سدد ياسر وسام كرة ثابتة في الزاوية العليا ولكن الحارس المحيسن تمكن من إبعادها لركلة زاوية. وظهرت الإثارة والندية في الدقائق الأخيرة من عمر المباراة، إذ لعب كرار كاظم نجم المنتخب العراقي كرة عرضية داخل منطقة الـ18 وحاول عبدالرحمن سفياني إبعادها ولكنه أرسلها لداخل الشباك كهدف تعادل للعراق (د: 90)، وفي الوقت الذي اعتقد فيه الجميع أن المباراة لن تُحسم في الأشواط الأصلية، تحصل منتخبنا الوطني على ركلة زاوية لتصل الكرة للبديل صهيب هوساوي الذي سيطر على الكرة وسددها بقدمه اليسرى داخل الشباك العراقية كهدف ثانٍ للسعودية (د: 90+6)، ليُعلن بعدها حكم اللقاء الكويتي سعود السمحان نهاية اللقاء، ومن ثم منح البطاقة الحمراء للاعب العراق محمد حيدر لاحتجاجه.
وبهذه النتيجة يتأهل منتخبنا الوطني السعودي لنهائي كأس الخليج للشباب (تحت 20 عاماً)، وينتظر الفائز من لقاء عمان متصدر المجموعة الثانية، ومنتخب اليمن وصيف المجموعة الأولى، يوم الأربعاء القادم، فيما سيلاقي العراق الخاسر من اللقاء في تحديد المركزين الثالث والرابع.

Our Saudi national team under 20 years old has qualified for the final of the Arabian Gulf Cup for youth in its first edition after defeating its counterpart, the Iraqi team, with a score of two to one, in the match that took place at Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Sports City Stadium in Al-Mahala during the tournament's semi-finals.
The Saudi Green entered the match with a lineup consisting of: Abdullah Al-Muhaysin (goalkeeper), Yasser Al-Dhafiri, Amjad Haraj, Mohammed Flatah, Fares bin Salem, Mohammed Al-Sarnukh, Mohammed Al-Qahtani, Talal Harithi, Ilyas Abu Bakr, Abdulaziz Al-Shammari, Abdulrahman Al-Sufyani. Our national team dominated the course of the match, and in the early minutes, Mohammed Al-Sarnukh played a high cross that striker Abdulaziz Al-Shammari jumped for and headed into the Iraqi goal as the first goal for Saudi Arabia (9th minute). The Iraqi team nearly equalized quickly after Yasser Wisam took a free kick aimed at the upper corner, but goalkeeper Al-Muhaysin managed to deflect it for a corner kick. Excitement and competitiveness emerged in the final minutes of the match, as Karrar Kazem, the star of the Iraqi team, delivered a cross inside the 18-yard box, and Abdulrahman Al-Sufyani attempted to clear it but sent it into the net as an equalizing goal for Iraq (90th minute). Just when everyone thought the match would not be decided in the regular time, our national team earned a corner kick, and the ball reached substitute Sohaib Hawsawi, who controlled it and shot it with his left foot into the Iraqi net as the second goal for Saudi Arabia (90+6 minutes), after which the Kuwaiti referee Saud Al-Samhan announced the end of the match and subsequently issued a red card to Iraqi player Mohammed Haidar for his protest.
With this result, our Saudi national team qualifies for the final of the youth Gulf Cup (under 20 years old), awaiting the winner of the match between Oman, the leader of Group B, and Yemen, the runner-up of Group A, next Wednesday, while Iraq will face the loser of that match in the third and fourth place playoff.
