بات منتخب جنوب أفريقيا على مقربة من التأهل لنهائيات بطولة كأس العالم لكرة القدم 2026 المقررة في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وكندا والمكسيك، بعدما عزز صدارته للمجموعة الثالثة إثر فوزه على ضيفه منتخب ليسوتو بثلاثية نظيفة ضمن الجولة السابعة من التصفيات الأفريقية المؤهلة للبطولة، وسجل أهداف جنوب أفريقيا موهو نكوتا وولايل فوستر وأوسوين أبوليس في الدقائق (16) و(63) و(67)، وضمن منافسات المجموعة نفسها، فاز منتخب بنين على ضيفه منتخب زيمبابوي بهدف من دون رد، سجله ستيف موني في الدقيقة (77)، ويتصدر منتخب جنوب أفريقيا المجموعة برصيد (16) نقطة، يليه منتخب بنين برصيد (11) نقطة، ورواندا ثالثًا برصيد (8) نقاط، ونيجيريا رابعًا برصيد (7) نقاط، فيما يحل منتخب ليسوتو خامسًا برصيد (6) نقاط، وزيمبابوي سادسًا برصيد (4) نقاط.
وفي منافسات المجموعة الثانية، تغلب منتخب الكونغو الديمقراطية على جنوب السودان بنتيجة (4 - 1).
سجل للكونغو كل من سيدريك باكامبو هدفين في الدقيقتين (13) و(36)، وأضاف ناثانيا مبوكو وويوان ويسا الهدفين الثالث والرابع في الدقيقتين (1+45) و(57)، فيما سجل هدف جنوب السودان الوحيد كير مانجار ماجاك في الدقيقة (68).
وبهذه النتيجة رفع المنتخب الكونغولي رصيده إلى (16) نقطة وحل في المركز الأول، فيما حل جنوب السودان في المركز الخامس برصيد (3) نقاط.
