Egypt condemned in the strongest terms the attacks targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and a Saudi Airlines aircraft, which resulted in the deaths of three Saudi citizens and injuries to several civilians, affirming its full solidarity with the Kingdom in protecting its security and sovereignty.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement issued (on Saturday), reiterated Cairo's firm rejection of these attacks, describing them as a blatant violation of international law, warning of the repercussions of targeting air traffic on regional and international security and stability.
Egypt emphasized its support for the measures taken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to preserve its security and sovereignty and protect its citizens, expressing its sincere condolences to the Kingdom, its leadership, government, and people, and extending its sympathies to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
The Civil Aviation Authority had announced (on Friday) that King Khalid International Airport was subjected to two attacks that occurred (on Thursday); the first targeted airport facilities, while the second targeted a Saudi Airlines aircraft, resulting in the deaths of three Saudi citizens and injuries to individuals of various nationalities.
The Egyptian condemnation comes amid a rise in attacks targeting aviation facilities in the Kingdom, as recent days have also witnessed attacks on Abha International Airport, resulting in casualties and injuries, raising concerns about the safety of civil aviation and the stability of air transport in the region.
The diplomatic moves rejecting these attacks reflect the importance of protecting civilian facilities and air corridors, at a time when fears are increasing regarding the escalation of confrontation in Yemen and its implications for the security of Saudi Arabia and the countries in the region.
Cairo and Riyadh, in their announced positions, affirmed the importance of respecting the sovereignty of states and maintaining their security and stability, while recent developments place the safety of civilians, vital facilities, and freedom of air navigation before a new test amid regional escalation.
