اتهمت فرنسا السلطات الإيرانية باحتجاز دبلوماسيين فرنسيين في طهران، في وقت أعلنت فيه المملكة المتحدة سحب ما تبقى من طاقم سفارتها بصورة مؤقتة بسبب تدهور الأوضاع الأمنية، في مؤشر جديد على تصاعد التوتر بين إيران وعدد من الدول الغربية.
فرنسا: احتجاز دبلوماسيين أثناء مهمة رسمية
أعلن وزير الخارجية الفرنسي جان-نويل بارو، الخميس، أن عناصر أمن إيرانية أوقفت بعنف دبلوماسيين فرنسيين يعملان في طهران واحتجزتهما لنحو أربع ساعات، أثناء تنفيذهما مهمة قال إنها تهدف إلى دعم المجتمع المدني الإيراني، معتبراً الحادثة تصعيداً جديداً في تعامل السلطات الإيرانية مع البعثات الدبلوماسية الأجنبية.
بريطانيا تسحب طاقم سفارتها وتحذر رعاياها
وفي خطوة متزامنة، أعلنت وزارة الخارجية والكومنولث والتنمية البريطانية (FCDO) سحب ما تبقى من أفراد بعثتها الدبلوماسية في إيران بصورة مؤقتة، مؤكدة أن السفارة ستواصل تقديم خدماتها عن بُعد حتى إشعار آخر.
وأوضحت الوزارة أن القرار جاء نتيجة التدهور المستمر في الوضع الأمني، دون أن تكشف عن عدد الموظفين الذين شملهم الإجراء، مشيرة إلى أنه يعد الثاني من نوعه بعد خطوة مماثلة اتخذتها في فبراير الماضي.
وجددت لندن تحذيرها لرعاياها من السفر إلى إيران، داعية الموجودين هناك، سواء كانوا مقيمين أو زائرين، إلى إعادة تقييم بقائهم في ظل الظروف الأمنية الراهنة.
تحذير من مخاطر الاعتقال
وأكدت الخارجية البريطانية أن المواطنين البريطانيين، بمن فيهم مزدوجو الجنسية البريطانية والإيرانية، يواجهون خطراً مرتفعاً للغاية بالتعرض للاعتقال أو الاحتجاز أو الاستجواب، لافتة إلى أن مجرد حمل جواز سفر بريطاني أو الاشتباه بوجود صلات بالمملكة المتحدة قد يكون سبباً كافياً لاحتجاز الشخص من قبل السلطات الإيرانية.
وأضافت أن قدرة الحكومة البريطانية على تقديم الدعم القنصلي داخل إيران أصبحت محدودة للغاية، مؤكدة أنه لن يكون بالإمكان تقديم خدمات قنصلية حضورية في حالات الطوارئ.
تصعيد أمني يهدد حركة السفر
وأشارت الوزارة إلى أن المشهد الأمني في الشرق الأوسط لا يزال غير قابل للتنبؤ، موضحة أن الضربات العسكرية والهجمات المتبادلة منذ الثامن من يوليو رفعت احتمالات اتساع رقعة التصعيد، ما قد يؤدي إلى إلغاء رحلات جوية أو إغلاق مجالات جوية وحدوث اضطرابات واسعة في حركة السفر بالمنطقة.
ويأتي ذلك في وقت تتواصل فيه العمليات العسكرية الأمريكية ضد إيران منذ تجدد المواجهات بين الجانبين في السابع من يوليو.
ملف الزوجين البريطانيين يزيد التوتر
ويتزامن التحذير البريطاني مع استمرار احتجاز البريطانيين كريغ فورمان وزوجته ليندسي في إيران، بعد توقيفهما في يناير 2025 خلال رحلة حول العالم على متن دراجتين ناريتين.
وكانت السلطات الإيرانية قد أصدرت في فبراير حكماً بسجنهما لمدة عشر سنوات بتهمة التجسس، وهي التهمة التي ينفيها الزوجان، فيما أعلنت عائلتهما في 15 يوليو تمديد عقوبة السجن المفروضة على كريغ فورمان لعامين إضافيين، ما يضيف بعداً جديداً للتوتر القائم بين لندن وطهران.
France has accused Iranian authorities of detaining French diplomats in Tehran, at a time when the United Kingdom announced the temporary withdrawal of the remaining staff from its embassy due to deteriorating security conditions, marking a new indication of rising tensions between Iran and several Western countries.
France: Detention of Diplomats During Official Mission
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced on Thursday that Iranian security forces violently stopped two French diplomats working in Tehran and held them for about four hours while they were carrying out a mission aimed at supporting Iranian civil society, considering the incident a new escalation in the Iranian authorities' handling of foreign diplomatic missions.
Britain Withdraws Embassy Staff and Warns Its Citizens
In a simultaneous move, the British Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) announced the temporary withdrawal of the remaining members of its diplomatic mission in Iran, confirming that the embassy will continue to provide services remotely until further notice.
The ministry explained that the decision was made due to the ongoing deterioration of the security situation, without disclosing the number of employees affected by the measure, noting that this is the second such action after a similar step taken in February.
London renewed its warning to its citizens against traveling to Iran, urging those present there, whether residents or visitors, to reassess their stay in light of the current security conditions.
Warning of Arrest Risks
The British Foreign Office confirmed that British citizens, including those with dual British-Iranian nationality, face an extremely high risk of arrest, detention, or interrogation, pointing out that merely carrying a British passport or being suspected of having connections to the UK could be sufficient grounds for detention by Iranian authorities.
It added that the British government's ability to provide consular support within Iran has become extremely limited, emphasizing that in-person consular services will not be available in emergencies.
Security Escalation Threatens Travel Movement
The ministry noted that the security landscape in the Middle East remains unpredictable, explaining that military strikes and reciprocal attacks since July 8 have increased the likelihood of escalation, which could lead to flight cancellations or airspace closures and widespread disruptions in travel in the region.
This comes at a time when American military operations against Iran continue since the resurgence of confrontations between the two sides on July 7.
The Case of the British Couple Increases Tensions
The British warning coincides with the ongoing detention of British citizens Craig Foreman and his wife Lindsey in Iran, after they were arrested in January 2025 during a round-the-world trip on two motorcycles.
The Iranian authorities had issued a ten-year prison sentence for them in February on charges of espionage, which the couple denies, while their family announced on July 15 the extension of Craig Foreman's prison sentence by an additional two years, adding a new dimension to the existing tension between London and Tehran.
