فرضت السلطات الأمريكية إجراءات أمنية واحترازية داخل مقر وزارة الدفاع الأمريكية (البنتاغون)، بعد رصد ما وُصف بـ«حادث مواد خطرة» أثار مخاوف بشأن جودة الهواء داخل المبنى.
وأكد المتحدث باسم البنتاغون شون بارنيل، اليوم (الخميس)، أن الأنظمة الداخلية رصدت مشكلة تتعلق بجودة الهواء، ما استدعى اتخاذ تدابير احترازية إلى حين تحديد طبيعة الخلل ومدى خطورته.
وقال إن الوزارة فعّلت البروتوكولات الأمنية المعتمدة، بما في ذلك توجيه العاملين في المناطق المتأثرة بالبقاء في أماكنهم، فيما انتشرت فرق الاستجابة والطوارئ لدعم الموظفين وسكان المبنى عند الحاجة.
فرق المواد الخطرة تتدخل
وأعلنت إدارة الإطفاء في مقاطعة أرلينغتون أن فريق المواد الخطرة التابع لها يشارك في التعامل مع الحادث بالتعاون مع فريق الاستجابة للمواد الخطرة التابع لوكالة حماية منشآت البنتاغون.
وأوضحت السلطات أن طبيعة المواد أو مصدر التلوث لم تُحدد بعد، فيما تتواصل عمليات الفحص والقياس داخل المجمع العسكري الأكبر في الولايات المتحدة.
اختبارات إضافية تستمر ساعتين
وبحسب رسالة داخلية وجهتها الجهات الأمنية في البنتاغون إلى العاملين، فإن مشكلة في جودة الهواء استدعت إجراء اختبارات إضافية قد تستغرق ما بين ساعة وساعتين.
وأشارت الرسالة إلى أن الموظفين قد يلاحظون انتشار عناصر الاستجابة من عدة جهات حكومية داخل الساحات والممرات، إلى جانب تطبيق إجراءات احترازية في الفناء المركزي للمبنى.
إغلاق أربعة طوابق وانتشار أمني مكثف
وكشفت مصادر مطلعة أن السلطات أغلقت الطوابق من الثاني إلى الخامس في عدد من الممرات داخل المجمع الضخم، فيما أفادت مصادر أخرى بأن عناصر الشرطة داخل البنتاغون شوهدوا وهم يرتدون أقنعة غاز وملابس حماية كيميائية كاملة أثناء التعامل مع الحادث.
ولم تعلن السلطات الأمريكية حتى الآن عن وقوع إصابات أو فتح تحقيق جنائي، كما لم تكشف عن نوع المادة الخطرة التي تسببت في حالة الاستنفار الأمني داخل مقر وزارة الدفاع
The U.S. authorities have imposed security and precautionary measures inside the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense (the Pentagon) after detecting what was described as a "hazardous materials incident" that raised concerns about air quality inside the building.
Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell confirmed today (Thursday) that internal systems detected an issue related to air quality, prompting precautionary measures until the nature of the problem and its severity are determined.
He stated that the department activated the established security protocols, including instructing personnel in the affected areas to remain in place, while response and emergency teams were deployed to assist employees and building occupants as needed.
Hazardous Materials Teams Respond
The Arlington County Fire Department announced that its hazardous materials team is participating in addressing the incident in collaboration with the Pentagon's Hazardous Materials Response Team.
Authorities clarified that the nature of the materials or the source of the contamination has not yet been identified, while inspection and measurement operations continue within the largest military complex in the United States.
Additional Testing to Last Two Hours
According to an internal message sent by security officials at the Pentagon to employees, an air quality issue necessitated additional testing that may take between one and two hours.
The message indicated that employees might notice response personnel from various government agencies in the courtyards and hallways, along with precautionary measures being implemented in the central courtyard of the building.
Closure of Four Floors and Increased Security Presence
Informed sources revealed that authorities closed floors two through five in several hallways within the massive complex, while other sources reported that police personnel inside the Pentagon were seen wearing gas masks and full chemical protective gear while handling the incident.
The U.S. authorities have not yet announced any injuries or opened a criminal investigation, nor have they disclosed the type of hazardous material that caused the heightened security alert inside the Department of Defense headquarters.
