أعلن الجيش الباكستاني، اليوم (الأربعاء)، تحطم مروحية عسكرية من طراز مي-17 تابعة له في منطقة كشمير الباكستانية، ما أسفر عن مصرع جميع أفراد الطاقم العسكري الذين كانوا على متنها.
وقال الجيش في بيان إن الحادثة وقعت بسبب عطل فني، ولم يحدد على الفور عدد الأشخاص الذين كانوا على متن المروحية، مشيرًا إلى أن جميع من كانوا بداخلها لقوا حتفهم.
ووقعت الحادثة قرب مدينة مظفر آباد، عاصمة إقليم آزاد كشمير، وأظهرت لقطات متداولة تصاعد أعمدة الدخان من موقع التحطم.
وأعرب قائد الجيش الباكستاني، المشير عاصم منير، عن حزنه العميق لفقدان الأرواح، وقدم تعازيه لعائلات القتلى.
يُعد طراز مي-17 مروحية نقل عسكرية روسية الصنع متعددة المهمات، تستخدم على نطاق واسع في الجيش الباكستاني لعمليات النقل والإمداد والإجلاء الطبي في المناطق الجبلية الصعبة مثل كشمير ومناطق الحدود الشمالية.
وتأتي هذه الحادثة في ظل توترات محلية في إقليم آزاد جامو وكشمير، حيث تشهد المنطقة احتجاجات وإضرابات بدعوة من «اللجنة العامة المشتركة» المحظورة مؤخرًا، تطالب بتحسين الأوضاع الاقتصادية والحقوق السياسية، وكانت المنطقة قد شهدت اشتباكات أسفرت عن قتلى في الأيام الماضية.
ولم يربط الجيش الباكستاني الحادثة بالأحداث الاحتجاجية، مؤكدًا أنه ناتج عن خلل فني، وأمر بفتح تحقيق رسمي لمعرفة أسباب الحادثة بدقة.
يُذكر أن الجيش الباكستاني سبق له أن تعرض لحوادث مشابهة لمروحيات مي-17 في السنوات الماضية، غالبًا ما تُعزى إلى الظروف الجوية الصعبة أو الأعطال الفنية في المناطق الجبلية العالية.
The Pakistani army announced today (Wednesday) the crash of a military Mi-17 helicopter belonging to it in the Pakistani Kashmir region, resulting in the death of all military crew members on board.
The army stated in a statement that the incident occurred due to a technical malfunction, and did not immediately specify the number of people on board the helicopter, noting that all those inside lost their lives.
The incident took place near the city of Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Kashmir, and circulated footage showed columns of smoke rising from the crash site.
The Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, expressed his deep sorrow for the loss of lives and offered his condolences to the families of the deceased.
The Mi-17 model is a Russian-made multi-role military transport helicopter, widely used in the Pakistani army for transportation, supply operations, and medical evacuations in difficult mountainous areas like Kashmir and the northern border regions.
This incident comes amid local tensions in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir region, where the area has been witnessing protests and strikes called by the recently banned "Joint Action Committee," demanding improvements in economic conditions and political rights. The region had also seen clashes that resulted in fatalities in recent days.
The Pakistani army did not link the incident to the protest events, confirming that it was due to a technical malfunction, and ordered a formal investigation to accurately determine the causes of the incident.
It is worth mentioning that the Pakistani army has previously experienced similar incidents with Mi-17 helicopters in past years, often attributed to difficult weather conditions or technical failures in high mountainous areas.
