Israeli media outlets reported that the Chief of Staff of the occupation army, Eyal Zamir, has approved plans to resume military operations in the Gaza Strip, while a spokesperson for Hamas announced that the Palestinian factions have reached acceptable approaches in the Cairo talks to solidify the ceasefire.

Expectations of a large-scale attack on Gaza

The newspaper "Haaretz" reported from security sources that Zamir approved operational plans presented to him by the commander of the Southern Command, Major General Yaniv Asor, during discussions about the possibility of resuming operations in the sector.

It mentioned that Asor claimed that so far, no international party capable or willing to disarm Hamas has been presented, noting that due to this, the Israeli army will soon be forced to launch a large-scale attack in Gaza.

According to the sources, Hamas has exploited recent months to significantly rebuild its military and organizational capabilities, including the tunnel networks that were damaged during the war.

The newspaper pointed out that the Israeli army is preparing for the possibility of returning to large-scale fighting in the Gaza Strip, against the backdrop of the ceasefire in the arenas of Iran and Lebanon.

The decision awaits approval from the political leadership

According to the newspaper, the Israeli army believes that Hamas has also rebuilt its headquarters and command and control systems, after many leaders of the military wing were targeted in the attacks.

It reported that senior officials in the Southern Command are seeking to expedite the implementation of the approved plans, revealing that Asor mentioned in closed discussions that Israel cannot be satisfied with the current situation, given the activity along the buffer lines (the yellow line) in Gaza.

It stated that the political leadership has not yet approved plans to expand the fighting, despite Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's request to accelerate preparations.

Acceptable approaches with mediator proposals

For his part, Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem confirmed that the Palestinian factions dealt positively and flexibly with the proposals put forth by the mediators during the recent meetings held in Cairo, related to the mechanisms for implementing the plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip and managing the upcoming phase.

He explained in press statements that the consultations held with the participation of mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey led to approaches that he described as acceptable from the various parties involved in the meetings.

He called on the mediators and the guarantor countries to exert pressure on the Israeli occupation to stop its violations of the ceasefire agreement, which came into effect last October, and to adhere to the terms of the agreement made.

Approval of the principle of weapon restriction

The French Press Agency reported that sources following the talks confirmed that the factions meeting in Cairo with the mediators agreed on the principle of "restricting weapons" in Gaza to a "mutually agreed" Palestinian authority.

A Palestinian official confirmed that the mediators and Hamas "agreed on a conditional formula regarding the issue of weapon restriction in the Gaza Strip."

It is expected that both Israel and the UN Special Coordinator for the Peace Process, Nikolai Mladenov, will "reject these conditions," noting that "Israel insists on the necessity of handing over all weapons to the international stabilization forces" that are supposed to be formed under President Trump's plan.

An informed source announced progress on most of the items presented by the mediators, adding, "The issue of weapons remains the only point of contention."

A Palestinian official confirmed that "the issue of weapons is one of the most contentious issues addressed" in the negotiations taking place in Cairo.
