The U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) announced the resignation of Defense Secretary advisor Justin Fulcher, marking the sixth departure of its kind affecting the close circle of Secretary Pete Hegseth in less than six months since he took office. Other sources confirmed that Fulcher was dismissed due to the leaking of sensitive military documents.
In an official statement, he said his resignation was "entirely amicable" and based on a prior agreement for a temporary service of six months, expressing gratitude to both Secretary Hegseth and President Donald Trump. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell announced that Fulcher was not fired from his position, describing him as "professional and committed."
Fulcher's resignation comes at a time when the Department of Defense is facing an unprecedented wave of resignations and dismissals, raising widespread concerns about leadership stability within the Pentagon. Criticism has focused on Secretary Hegseth, a former media personality at Fox News.
The pace of departures from the department has accelerated since April, when Dan Caldwell, Colin Carroll, and Darren Silnick were dismissed over allegations of leaking information, accusations that the individuals denied without providing conclusive evidence. Both Joe Casper and former spokesman John Uliot resigned before Fulcher joined their ranks.
Reports indicate rising tensions within the department due to divisions among senior advisors and a lack of harmony in Hegseth's team. Media reports have revealed a "cold war" among the secretary's close aides, with the White House intervening on multiple occasions to contain internal disputes.
Fulcher's resignation comes a week after the Washington Post published a report revealing an unusual incident from before his official joining, when he stormed out of a meeting with a team led by figures including billionaire Elon Musk, accusing a security agency of monitoring him. The incident caused tension with the secretary, who summoned the team leader at the time, Yinon Weiss, and confronted him angrily.
Fulcher sparked controversy again after his official joining when the British newspaper The Guardian reported that he claimed to possess technical information to track "leakers" within the department, which turned out to be exaggerated after a review conducted by officials from the Pentagon and the White House.
Sources within the department noted that Fulcher was recently moved away from the secretary's main office, a step some viewed as an indication of his impending departure, despite his justification of the matter as due to "maintenance work."
