The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, expressed his concern over the continued Houthi attacks on civilian targets in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the escalation of hostilities around Taiz in Yemen, emphasizing that they cause significant suffering for civilians and increase regional tensions.
Guterres called in statements to reporters in New York today for an end to the attacks on homes, hospitals, schools, airports, and energy facilities, warning that the escalation of conflicts doubles humanitarian suffering and extends its impact to energy markets, supply chains, and financial systems, thereby increasing the pressures of living costs around the world.
He urged for restraint and the establishment of a political horizon in Yemen, pointing to the efforts of the United Nations in this regard, and stressing the necessity of halting the fighting, respecting international law, protecting civilians, and safeguarding the rights and freedoms of international navigation.
