It is still hoped that the warring parties in Iran will return to negotiations and respond to the efforts of Pakistani and Qatari mediators to put an end to the fighting that destroys Iran's capabilities every day and leads to the increasing death toll of its people. The opportunity remains to return to the memorandum of understanding signed in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, which lays the foundations for a peace that can be both lasting and just.
In fact, the continuation of the war increases the risks of instability across the entire Middle East, at a time when the world needs a smooth flow of energy supplies, essential fertilizers for agriculture, and vital pharmaceutical components worldwide. Additionally, the ongoing bombardment of the Gulf Arab states by Iran defies common sense, the principle of good neighborliness, and the duty of peaceful coexistence among the peoples of the region. There can be no justification for targeting the Gulf and Arab states; these countries have repeatedly confirmed that their territories are not used as a launchpad for attacks on Iran.
The stubbornness and arrogance on the part of Tehran are not in its interest, as they have led to the return of the sanctions imposed by the United States on its ports. They have also resulted in the resumption of American airstrikes targeting its naval and air bases, as well as its civilian infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and industrial facilities. This will undoubtedly complicate the reconstruction efforts after the guns fall silent and the airstrikes cease.
These complications could also harm the friendly relations between Iran and several countries in the region that are keen to mediate in resolving its issues, such as the brotherly Sultanate of Oman, which Iran has begun to target in its territorial waters without sufficient justification that allows attempts to leap over shared geography and history, and the bonds of neighborliness.
It is time for Tehran to heed the voice of wisdom and reason, distancing itself from policies of hegemony and the mobilization of its client militias to spread destruction and terrorism in the region and the world. In an atmosphere filled with peace and respect for others, Iran can resolve all its problems. However, its insistence on its military nuclear program and ideological dominance will achieve nothing for it except hostility with the major powers, which are concerned about the safety of supply chains, the smooth flow of imports and exports, and the stability of the energy-rich and resource-rich countries in the region.
Will Iran listen to the voice of reason and prioritize wisdom over a hegemony that cannot be achieved by force?
