Oil prices fell slightly in early trading this morning (Friday), as investors awaited developments in the Middle East, alongside monitoring updates on global supplies.
Brent crude futures dropped by 41 cents, or 0.39%, to $105.51 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell by 54 cents, or 0.55%, to $97.43 a barrel.
The decline came after WTI crude rose by more than 3% during Thursday's trading, supported by a larger-than-expected drop in U.S. crude oil inventories, while Brent crude ended the previous session with little change.
In a related context, the International Energy Agency agreed to accelerate the release of diesel quantities into the markets, alongside completing the release of remaining quantities from a previous plan to tap emergency reserves, aiming to boost supplies and alleviate price pressures.
Concerns related to oil supplies from the Middle East continue to impact market movements, amid the tensions in the region, while investors await the implications of geopolitical developments and shipping activity on oil prices in the coming period.
