U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced that President Donald Trump will make his decisions regarding trade agreements this week, even as separate negotiations continue with China and the European Union, ahead of the deadline set by Trump on August 1. Lutnick said in an interview with CNBC, "We will get things done by next Friday."

U.S. officials and their European counterparts are still discussing tariffs on steel and aluminum, in addition to digital services regulations, following the announcement of a framework agreement last Sunday.

Earlier, Chinese and U.S. officials met in Stockholm for the second day of negotiations on reciprocal tariffs, aiming to extend the truce agreed upon in talks in Geneva last May.

In an effort to extend the trade truce between the two countries and avoid the return of high tariffs that threaten global supply chains, the United States and China held a round of negotiations yesterday (Monday) in Stockholm that lasted more than five hours.

Beijing expressed hope that both sides could engage in talks based on mutual respect and reciprocity.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiaxun said, "We hope that the United States, in cooperation with China, will enhance consensus through dialogue and communication, reduce misunderstandings, solidify cooperation, and encourage the development of stable, sound, and sustainable Sino-U.S. relations."

The talks in Stockholm aim to extend the 90-day truce reached in Geneva last May, which put an end to reciprocal tariff measures.
