أطلقت وزارة الثقافة، بالشراكة مع هيئة التراث، منحة «الحِرف اليدوية»، ضمن مبادرة عام الحِرف اليدوية 2025، التي ستقدم دعمها للأبحاث المتخصصة التي تُبرز أهمية الحرف اليدوية في المملكة باعتبارها مادةً حيّة تحمل دلالات ثقافية على وظائف اجتماعية، ومهارات ومعارف متوارثة، ومضامين اقتصادية وفكرية للمجتمع السعودي على مدى تاريخه الطويل.
وتُغطي المنحة محاور متعددة من بينها محور «تاريخ الحِرف اليدوية» الذي يشمل دراسة تطوّر هذه الحِرف عبر العصور المختلفة سواءً الحيّة منها والمندثرة، ومدى تأثرها بالتحولات الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والسياسية، ومحور «تعزيز الحِرف اليدوية» الذي يسعى إلى الكشف عن الجهود المبذولة لدعم الحِرف اليدوية وترسيخها، وأما محور «الأثر الاقتصادي للحِرف اليدوية، وتنمية القدرة التنافسية للاقتصاد الإبداعي»، فَيَدرُس كيفية تأثيرها على الاقتصاد، بما في ذلك مقارنة الأسواق المحلية والدولية للمنتجات الثقافية اليدوية.
ويتناول محور «التكنولوجيا، واستخداماتها في الحِرف اليدوية»، دمج استخدام التقنيات الحديثة والتصاميم العصرية مع الحِرف اليدوية؛ لخلق منتجات جديدة تتلاءم مع احتياجات السوق المعاصرة.
ويتطرق محور «المجتمع والحِرف اليدوية» للمفاهيم المجتمعية المرتبطة بالحِرف اليدوية بأنواعها المختلفة، والدور الاجتماعي، ومدى تأثيره على تطور القطاع واستدامته، فيما يُركز محور «مفاهيم الحِرف والصناعات الثقافية اليدوية» على الدراسة النقدية للمصطلحات المتصلة بالحِرف اليدوية من منظورٍ تاريخي وثقافي، وتحليل دلالاته المفاهيمية، إضافة إلى مقارنة هذا المصطلح بمسمياتٍ أخرى ذات صلة مثل: الصناعات الثقافية اليدوية، والجدل المعني بالحِرف مقابل الفنون، والحِرفي مقابل الفنان؛ لتوضيح الفروقات والسياقات التي تُستخدم فيها هذه المفاهيم.
وقد وضعت الوزارة شروطاً للمشاركة في المنحة؛ من أهمها أن يكون المتقدم حاصلاً على شهادة الماجستير أو الدكتوراه، أو لديه رصيدٌ من الأبحاث الرصينة السابقة، والتقيّد بتاريخ التقديم، إذ لن يتم النظر في أيّ طلبٍ بعد انتهاء مدة التقديم التي تستمر حتى الأول من سبتمبر القادم، والالتزام بعدم تقديم المقترح البحثي لأي جهة أخرى، إلا في حال تم الاعتذار عن طلب التقديم، والالتزام بتقديم ورقةٍ بحثية أكاديمية قابلة للنشر في مجلات مُحَكّمة، إلى جانب استيفاء متطلبات التقديم وإرشاداته، والمستندات المطلوبة الموضّحة في الموقع الرسمي للمنحة.

The Ministry of Culture, in partnership with the Heritage Authority, has launched the "Handicrafts Grant" as part of the Handicrafts Year Initiative 2025, which will provide support for specialized research that highlights the importance of handicrafts in the Kingdom as a living material carrying cultural significance related to social functions, inherited skills and knowledge, as well as economic and intellectual implications for Saudi society throughout its long history.
The grant covers multiple areas, including the "History of Handicrafts" which encompasses the study of the evolution of these crafts across different eras, both those that are still alive and those that have disappeared, and how they have been influenced by social, economic, and political transformations. The "Enhancing Handicrafts" area aims to uncover the efforts made to support and establish handicrafts, while the "Economic Impact of Handicrafts and Enhancing the Competitiveness of the Creative Economy" area studies how they affect the economy, including a comparison of local and international markets for handmade cultural products.
The "Technology and Its Uses in Handicrafts" area addresses the integration of modern technologies and contemporary designs with handicrafts to create new products that meet the needs of the contemporary market.
The "Community and Handicrafts" area discusses the societal concepts associated with various types of handicrafts, their social role, and how they influence the development and sustainability of the sector. Meanwhile, the "Concepts of Handicrafts and Cultural Handicraft Industries" area focuses on the critical study of terms related to handicrafts from a historical and cultural perspective, analyzing their conceptual implications, in addition to comparing this term with other related designations such as cultural handicraft industries, and the debate concerning crafts versus arts, and artisan versus artist; to clarify the differences and contexts in which these concepts are used.
The ministry has set conditions for participation in the grant, the most important of which is that the applicant must hold a master's or doctoral degree, or have a portfolio of previous solid research, and adhere to the application deadline, as no applications will be considered after the submission period ends on September 1st. Additionally, applicants must commit to not submitting the research proposal to any other entity unless they withdraw their application, and they must submit an academic research paper suitable for publication in peer-reviewed journals, along with fulfilling the application requirements and guidelines, and the required documents outlined on the official grant website.
The Ministry of Culture aims, through this grant, to support knowledge-based research related to handicrafts as a prominent element of Saudi culture, in addition to enhancing local knowledge related to achieving the sustainable development goals for handicrafts, and facilitating communication between experts and those interested in its research.
