The first of October, corresponding to today's date (Wednesday), is the International Day of Older Persons.
With the changing patterns of modern life, older persons in many countries around the world lack support and empathy from community members. In some cases, violations of their rights are observed. However, thanks to God, these violations are few in our country, as our elderly are narrators of our national history, and it is wonderful to listen to their stories and learn from them.
In addition to being a treasure trove of wisdom, poetry, and real-life experiences. They have lived through the harshness of life, witnessed and done much for their country, and they teach us a lot about life; and because our noble religion precedes all human rights discourses and laws, we care for them and learn from them.
The issue of elderly care and appropriate support has always been a topic of interest. In my opinion, the family bears the responsibility of caring for older persons as they age. After that, the government and society should take steps to ensure that older persons and nursing homes receive the necessary care for a healthy life. The elderly have devoted their lives to their families; they raised them, supported them, and enabled them to live in society, instilling in them values, courage, and the drive to face all challenges. Therefore, when they grow old and need moral and material support, it is the family's responsibility to stand by them, offering respect, love, and care as they provided when they were dependent on them.
Moreover, sometimes the family may be unable to care for the elderly, such as due to financial issues or the absence of someone in the family. In these cases, I suggest that the government should take responsibility for covering their expenses. That is better than placing them in care homes.
