Since the establishment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which laid the foundations of security and prosperity for its citizens, the country has faced numerous challenges from multiple fronts. These challenges have varied between international, economic, and security dimensions, and were particularly manifested in waves of terrorism accompanied by extremist ideas, incitement, and sabotage aimed at the homeland and society in the past. Nevertheless, what we witness today represents a qualitative shift; new threats have emerged targeting our unity and undermining our social fabric through divisive rhetoric, hidden incitement, and attempts to detach the components of the homeland from its identity and culture. Today, this has been exposed thanks to the continuous vigilance of the leadership of this nation and its loyal men, in addition to the growing societal awareness that has contributed to uncovering many of the threats surrounding us, which seek to undermine our unity and national security.
In a previous statement, the media spokesperson for the Presidency of State Security, Colonel Turki Al-Harbi, mentioned the following:
“We are facing a very frightening intellectual narrative that surrounds and opposes the bright aspects of our culture and identity, ideas that promote individuality and separation from the mother component at all levels. Why? So that an alternative is presented to you and you abandon what you have.” In this part of Colonel Turki Al-Harbi's speech, he mentioned an important term: “narrative,” and not an agenda or discourse, but “narrative,” which is fundamentally based on linking events or ideas in a sequential and logical manner for the recipient. This connection is not necessarily purely chronological (like historical sequence), but can be causal, thematic, or even psychological, aiming to convey a meaning or message or build a certain understanding of reality. The narrative referred to here, which the media spokesperson emphasized, is a cunning narrative that offers an alternative by diminishing the original and abandoning it. He continues, “They try to belittle what we have, the homeland and its resources, for a very simple and instinctive reason in human nature,” and adds, “If we belittle and despise what we have, we easily relinquish it. The idea is very simple: belittle what you see and can easily abandon.” Here, the goal behind this “long-winded” narrative is achieved, and we have existing models and examples of those who have been swept away by these frightening narratives - even if they are few - but they lost the precious in exchange for a lowly, humiliating life, when they despised the blessings and security they had in the embrace of a great homeland, only to discover a bitter reality and a miserable existence. Some returned regretting, appreciating what they once had, while others remained lost in the maze of homelessness and the loss of identity, family, and homeland!
Indeed, gentlemen, it is frightening when we imagine it, so how about those who are tossed in their fire, having been swept away and drowned in the darkness of these narratives that aim to isolate the youth of society from their cultural values and strip them of their identity with soft and smooth languages, and ideas and agendas built on falsehood that sneak insidiously into ears that have listened and minds that are locked!
There is no alternative to the homeland, no matter the cost, for the homeland is the mother, the roof, the identity, dignity, and honor.
