I watch and hear about the Ministry of Education's decisions regarding appointments, which are deemed incorrect, and that the ministry has not allowed people to express their opinions on what is happening with appointments, whether for male or female teachers or even for the acceptance of university students. This is a significant shortcoming because any public entity is in dire need of knowing the inputs before issuing the outputs.
Does the Ministry of Education make its decisions without knowing the outputs, their details, and their impacts on people?
In this article, I will focus on female high school graduates when they are accepted into universities far from their families, specifically the acceptance in another city. This acceptance places a significant burden on the students and their families, particularly since the students are young and may not be able to move from one neighborhood to another, let alone to another city, which may be in rural areas. If we overlook this reason, we will find other more pressing reasons that the ministry should have been aware of. It astonishes me when a girl from Arar, for example, is accepted in Jeddah, and a student from Jeddah is accepted in Arar. This pattern repeats with several students. Is this form of acceptance guaranteed to reduce the number of accepted students in universities? If so, it is an unjust decision for outstanding students who wish to continue their education; however, being accepted in another city prevents them from fulfilling their desires. Moving to another city brings numerous problems (for the student and her family).
It starts with financial costs (housing, tickets, living expenses) and does not end there, leading to fear and anxiety dominating the student and her family, especially if the university she is accepted into does not have female student housing.
The dilemma arises if a family has two daughters, each accepted in a different city. What salary can the guardian bear to cover all these expenses?!
I believe the ministry should review the acceptance decision because every individual needs psychological security to continue their efforts and academic achievement. This is just one aspect, and if we opened the door to blame the ministry for the appointments of teachers, there are fatalities due to traffic accidents that claim lives.
