Microsoft and NVIDIA are pushing the personal computer to the heart of the artificial intelligence race, with the unveiling of the "Surface Laptop Ultra" equipped with "RTX Spark" chips, in a move aimed at running AI models and agents directly on the device, reducing the need to offload heavy tasks to cloud computing centers.
This new direction opens up a wider space for "Windows" to execute complex tasks locally, from coding to project processing and running digital agents, redistributing computational power between the device and the cloud. For Microsoft, this could lead to a shift of some workloads currently processed through "Azure" data centers to users' devices, while the partnership gives NVIDIA a greater opportunity to expand in the personal computer market.
However, the new power comes at a high cost; the surge in local artificial intelligence coincides with pressure on prices for memory and high-performance components, as the price of the "DGX Spark" computer has risen by about 75% to $6,950.
Competition, then, goes beyond launching a new device; the next round of the artificial intelligence race may be decided within the user's computer: greater capability, faster response, and less reliance on the cloud.
