ويُعد سباق شانتلوب ليه فيني بالقرب من باريس عام 1898 من أوائل سباقات صعود الهضبة الموثقة، إذ شكّل آنذاك محطة مهمة في تاريخ رياضة المحركات، ورسّخ مفهومًا لا يزال قائمًا حتى اليوم: سائق واحد، وسيارة واحدة، ومسار واحد، والهدف هو تسجيل أسرع زمن ممكن.

With the launch of the second round of the Saudi Toyota Hill Climb Championship taking place from July 17 to 18, 2026, drivers will not just be racing against time, but will continue a legacy that spans over 125 years, in one of the oldest and most prestigious motorsport disciplines in the world, under the supervision of the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation.
In the late 19th century, before the emergence of modern racetracks and global championships, the mountainous roads in Europe represented the primary field for testing drivers' skills and car capabilities. It was there, on the ascending roads, that hill climb racing was born, where elevation differences, sharp turns, and speed come together in a challenge that relies more on precision and confidence than on direct competition.
The Chanteloup-les-Vignes race near Paris in 1898 is considered one of the earliest documented hill climb races, marking an important milestone in the history of motorsport and establishing a concept that still exists today: one driver, one car, one course, with the goal of recording the fastest time possible.
Despite the significant evolution that motorsport has undergone over the decades, hill climb racing has maintained its unique identity. There are no direct confrontations between competitors; instead, each driver competes individually against the clock, where every braking point, every turn, and every moment of acceleration becomes a crucial factor in achieving the best time.
