The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced today (Saturday) the launch of a security campaign targeting hideouts belonging to terrorist cells and outlaws in Tartus.
The ministry stated that these cells are involved in carrying out attacks against elements and sites affiliated with the internal security forces, indicating that the latest of these crimes targeted an internal security patrol at one of the entrances to the city of Tartus, resulting in the deaths of two personnel.
The ministry clarified that security operations are still ongoing.
Syrian television reported that two members of the Syrian internal security forces in Tartus province, western Syria, were killed two days ago when gunfire was opened by unknown assailants near the city garage, noting that one of the vehicles refused to stop at a security checkpoint and opened fire directly on the checkpoint personnel.
The television pointed out that security agencies in the province began intensive pursuit operations at that time to track down the attackers and apprehend them, stating that justice will reach anyone who attempts to tamper with the security of Tartus and its people.
Three civilians were killed yesterday due to the explosion of a landmine left over from the regime of former President Bashar al-Assad in northern Hama countryside, and three children were seriously injured as a result of a landmine explosion in the Al-Midmar area of Palmyra, east of Homs.
The area administration urged engineering teams to intervene urgently and work to clear the area of the danger of landmines and war remnants, to ensure the protection of civilian lives and enhance the security of the local community, calling on residents to exercise utmost caution and avoid approaching suspicious or uninhabited areas.
Emergency and Disaster Management Minister Raed Saleh confirmed that vast areas of Syrian land are still planted with landmines, some of which are handmade remnants from militias and the terrorist organization ISIS, which used to plant mines randomly in various areas, explaining that this reality poses a significant obstacle to reconstruction efforts and the return to normal life.
