وقّع البرنامج السعودي لتنمية وإعمار اليمن، مذكرة تفاهم مع منظمة اليونسكو لتعزيز التعاون في صون التراث الثقافي اليمني ودعم جهود الحكومة اليمنية في حماية ممتلكاتها الثقافية وتحديد المواقع المرشحة للإدراج في قائمة التراث العالمي.
وقّع المذكرة من جانب البرنامج المهندس حسن العطاس، ومن جانب اليونسكو صلاح خالد مدير مكتب المنظمة الإقليمي لدول الخليج واليمن.
تهدف المذكرة إلى تعزيز القدرات المؤسسية اليمنية وتقديم الدعم الفني في مجالات التراث والتعليم والثقافة والعلوم، وتمثل امتداداً للشراكة القائمة بين الجانبين؛ التي شملت مشاريع بارزة مثل ترميم قصر سيئون ودعم التعليم الأساسي وعدد من المبادرات الثقافية.
ويواصل البرنامج السعودي دوره في إحياء التراث اليمني عبر ترميم المباني التاريخية، وبناء القدرات الثقافية، وتنفيذ مبادرات تنموية تُسهم في تعزيز الاقتصاد المحلي. كما يعمل بالتعاون مع وزارة الثقافة اليمنية ودارة الملك عبدالعزيز على رقمنة وترميم وثائق مكتبة الأحقاف في تريم.
وفي مجال التراث غير المادي، يدعم البرنامج مشاريع مثل معمل حرفة في سقطرى لتمكين المرأة اقتصادياً، إضافة إلى الاحتفاء بـ«يوم اللغة المهرية» في المدارس النموذجية بالمهرة بالتعاون مع اليونسكو.
كما شارك البرنامج في معرض «بين ثقافتين» بالرياض عام 2023 للتعريف بالثقافتين السعودية واليمنية وإبراز أوجه التشابه بينهما في الفنون والعمارة والأزياء والطهي، بما يعزز التبادل الثقافي ويثري معرفة الزائرين بتاريخ البلدين الفني.
The Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen signed a memorandum of understanding with UNESCO to enhance cooperation in preserving Yemeni cultural heritage and supporting the Yemeni government's efforts to protect its cultural properties and identify sites proposed for inclusion on the World Heritage List.
The memorandum was signed on behalf of the program by Engineer Hassan Al-Attas, and on behalf of UNESCO by Salah Khaled, Director of the Regional Office for Gulf States and Yemen.
The memorandum aims to strengthen Yemeni institutional capacities and provide technical support in the fields of heritage, education, culture, and sciences, representing an extension of the existing partnership between the two sides; which has included prominent projects such as the restoration of the Sayun Palace, support for basic education, and several cultural initiatives.
The Saudi program continues its role in reviving Yemeni heritage through the restoration of historical buildings, building cultural capacities, and implementing developmental initiatives that contribute to enhancing the local economy. It is also working in collaboration with the Yemeni Ministry of Culture and the King Abdulaziz Foundation to digitize and restore documents from the Al-Ahqaf Library in Tarim.
In the field of intangible heritage, the program supports projects such as a craft workshop in Socotra to empower women economically, in addition to celebrating "Mahri Language Day" in model schools in Al-Mahra in collaboration with UNESCO.
The program also participated in the "Between Two Cultures" exhibition in Riyadh in 2023 to introduce the Saudi and Yemeni cultures and highlight the similarities between them in arts, architecture, fashion, and cuisine, thereby enhancing cultural exchange and enriching visitors' knowledge of the artistic history of the two countries.
