طلبت اليابان من الولايات المتحدة ضمانات بعدم وضع طوكيو في موقف غير مواتٍ بموجب إجراءات الرسوم الجمركية الجديدة التي تدرسها واشنطن، داعية إلى عدم تطبيق رسوم محتملة 15% على السلع اليابانية.
وأكد وزير الاقتصاد والتجارة والصناعة الياباني ريوسي أكازاوا أمس (الجمعة) أنه قدم هذا الطلب خلال اجتماع استمر ساعتين في واشنطن مع وزير التجارة الأمريكي هوارد لوتنيك، موضحاً أنه أطلع الصحفيين على تفاصيل اللقاء بعد انتهائه.
وجاءت هذه التحركات بعدما أبطلت المحكمة العليا الأمريكية في فبراير بعض الرسوم الجمركية الرئيسية التي فرضها الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، ما دفع الولايات المتحدة إلى فرض رسم شامل جديد 10% قد يرتفع إلى 15%.
وأدى هذا القرار إلى زيادة حالة عدم اليقين عالمياً بشأن الاتفاقات التجارية التي أُبرمت العام الماضي ومستويات الرسوم التي يواجهها المستوردون حالياً.
وأوضح أكازاوا أن الحكومتين أكدتا التزامهما باتفاق التجارة الذي تم التوصل إليه العام الماضي، الذي أرسى تعرفة أساسية بنسبة 15% على معظم الواردات اليابانية.
Japan has requested guarantees from the United States to avoid placing Tokyo in an unfavorable position under the new tariff measures being considered by Washington, urging against the potential application of a 15% tariff on Japanese goods.
Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Ryoshi Akazawa confirmed yesterday (Friday) that he made this request during a two-hour meeting in Washington with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, explaining that he briefed reporters on the details of the meeting after it concluded.
This move came after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned some major tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump in February, prompting the United States to impose a new comprehensive 10% tariff that could rise to 15%.
This decision has increased global uncertainty regarding trade agreements made last year and the levels of tariffs currently faced by importers.
Akazawa clarified that both governments reaffirmed their commitment to the trade agreement reached last year, which established a basic tariff of 15% on most Japanese imports.
