Over the course of five months of open confrontation between Washington and Tehran, the scene has transcended traditional readings; it has turned into a real test of the maturity of international and regional policies and strategies.
The political and military reality is no longer static; rather, it is shaped and expands with each new crisis, placing decision-makers in a dilemma of evaluating their options amidst a flood of contradictory media data, with a margin of maneuvering that widens and narrows according to immediate interests.
With the collapse of fragile agreements, the fundamental question remains: Does any party have a real option to end the war in the near term?
The current difficulty lies in the parties' inability to dismantle the scene before building any solid agreement to stop the war. Moreover, any warm settlement requires a deep reading of the network of strategic international alliances, not just immediate ones, and testing the effectiveness of backchannel negotiation avenues.
In contrast, Tehran imposes the equation of "deterrence by geography" through the sovereignty crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, transforming the international waterway into a political weapon that threatens energy markets and global supply chains.
This mutual maritime blockade and the ongoing war of attrition without resolution, along with the expansion of proxy networks and the struggle for intelligence information, have all become barriers to achieving the declared American goals: a nuclear-free Iran, free of ballistic missiles, and without regional influence.
The scene reveals that the two negotiation tracks emphasized by President Trump—the nuclear file and maritime security—are still in the phase of diplomatic and media consumption, and it seems that the current American administration is wavering between the desire to conclude a "grand deal" to end the conflict and a reality that imposes "conditional containment" to avoid slipping into a full-scale war.
Managing a conflict of this complexity means that "temporary pauses" will remain without specific time limits; transitioning from one phase to another requires highly sensitive agreements that have not yet matured.
The most dangerous aspect of this confrontation is the risk of mixing the cards, turning the bilateral conflict into a wide regional war with multiple fronts and agendas. This catastrophic scenario is what prompted Gulf capitals to intervene decisively to prevent a potential American military strike against Iran at the beginning of this week.
This Gulf movement reflects an advanced strategic awareness; the countries in the region refuse to have their lands or skies become a battleground for settling scores, and they realize that the Middle East can no longer tolerate further security exposure that threatens its economic stability and developmental gains.
The political and military scene today is going through a phase of extreme sensitivity and complexity, and in the face of this tension, Gulf countries are moving not only to bridge the viewpoints between two warring parties but also to impose a comprehensive strategic reading that protects the region's interests away from the immediate political maneuvers that are no longer hidden from anyone. Moreover, the alternative to rational dialogue and comprehensive settlement will only be a major explosion that the whole world will pay the price for.
