In an unusual scene at one of the busiest airports in Britain, travelers found themselves facing a sudden crisis after a malfunction in a water treatment facility led to a widespread disruption of supplies at Gatwick Airport, south of London, causing chaos in the movement of services within its main facilities.
The airport management announced yesterday (Sunday) that a problem with water supplies in the nearby Horley area had a direct impact on the airport, explaining that the disruption affected water supplies in the two main passenger terminals.
Gatwick management confirmed via a post on the "X" platform that they are working to address the situation, noting that water bottles are being distributed to travelers and staff, along with temporary measures to ensure the safety and comfort of those inside the airport.
One traveler shared a photo of a restaurant inside the airport that was empty of customers, accompanying it with a comment indicating the disruption of services, saying: "Gatwick Airport... no water, no open restaurants or bars."
The airport management did not specify the expected duration for fully restoring supplies, while specialized teams continue to address the malfunction and return services to normal.
