The Iranian Foreign Ministry described the nuclear talks with the United States as having become "meaningless" following Israeli attacks that targeted vast areas in Iran, and announced that the decision regarding these talks "has not yet been clarified," while the Omani Foreign Minister, whose country is mediating in the negotiations, is in contact with several of his counterparts to contain the tension and military escalation in the region.
The Iranian news agency "Tasnim" quoted Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baqaei as saying today (Saturday): "The United States has acted in a way that makes dialogue meaningless; you cannot claim to negotiate while at the same time allowing Israel to target Iranian territory."
He added that Israel has succeeded in influencing the diplomatic process, and that its attack would not have occurred without Washington's approval.
Iran had previously accused the United States of complicity in the Israeli attacks, but Washington denied this claim and informed Tehran at the United Nations Security Council that "it is wise to negotiate" regarding its nuclear program.
The sixth round of U.S.-Iranian nuclear talks was scheduled to take place tomorrow (Sunday) in Muscat, but it is still unclear whether it will be held following the Israeli attack and the Iranian response.
For his part, Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi has been in contact with several of his counterparts as part of diplomatic efforts to contain the tension and military escalation between Iran and Israel.
According to the Omani news agency, al-Busaidi held talks today with several of his counterparts from brotherly and friendly countries, during which he emphasized the importance of stopping aggression and deterring the aggressor using peaceful means based on international law and justice to save lives, halt destruction, and prevent further casualties, in order to maintain the security and stability of the region and protect the higher interests of its peoples.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned yesterday (Friday) of the consequences and results of the aggressive approach, calling on various countries to take a clear stance in condemning Israel and pressuring it to stop its crimes in the region.
Iran launched an attack on Israeli targets on Friday evening in response to a previous Israeli attack on the same day.
Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon claimed that his country acted in self-defense, accusing Iran of "preparing for war." Meanwhile, the Iranian representative to the United Nations Amir Saeed Iravani accused Israel of seeking to kill the diplomatic process, sabotage negotiations, and push the region towards a wider conflict.
In a notable development, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi informed the Security Council that the above-ground enrichment facility in "Natanz" was completely destroyed, noting that Iran reported its nuclear facilities in Fordow and Isfahan had been subjected to attacks.
