Syria commented on the reports regarding its participation in direct negotiations with Israel. The head of internal security in the Syrian province of Sweida, Major General Ahmad al-Dalati, denied in television statements his involvement in any direct negotiation sessions with Israel.

He emphasized in statements to the "Syrian News" channel yesterday (Tuesday) that these claims are unfounded and lack accuracy and credibility, affirming that Syria's position on this matter is firm and clear.

He pointed out that the Syrian leadership continues to take all necessary measures to protect the Syrian people and defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the republic using all legitimate means.

Western media had reported on direct meetings that took place between Syrian and Israeli officials in the past few weeks.

They quoted informed sources as saying that Israel and Syria are in direct contact and that they held direct meetings in the past few weeks aimed at containing tensions and preventing the outbreak of conflict in the border region.

The sources added that the direct meetings between officials from both the Syrian and Israeli sides could lead to broader understandings aimed at preventing any escalation and containing security tensions.

According to the same sources, the Syrian and Israeli sides held at least three rounds of direct talks, including one in the border area. It was mentioned that the head of security in the province of Sweida, Ahmad al-Dalati, led the Syrian side that held meetings with the Israelis.
